Ashlyn's P.O.V.
I decided to grab the key gun again; after using it quite alot yesterday, I kind of got the hang of it. And if this creature is huge and we are unable to capture it, then it would be best to carry a powerful gun.
Before we leave, we have to suit up. We don't want to look suspicious, so we wear normal clothes, but with special armor under our clothes. After we all are suited up, we grab extra amo and go out for our first mission.
"Are you alright?" Niall asks as he walks up behind me. I guess I looked nervous, because that is exactly how I feel.
"Yeah, just a little nervous." I say.
"Don't be. I won't let anything happen to you. None of us will. We're like a team, Ashlyn, we've got eachothers back." He says
"Yeah, you're right. But it's not just this; I'm still a little frightend by Roderik. I can't help but think that something very bad is going to happen soon." I say, looking up at his concerned face.
"Ashlyn, don't worry. Even if Roderik is planning something. It's nothing we can't handle. I think he's all talk and no action, to be honest." He says, but I'm not so sure he's right.
"Maybe.." Is all I can say.
"Come on you two! Let's get a move on! That Sphinx isn't going to capture its self." Legend yells at Niall and I.
Sphinx? What in the world is a sphinx? I kind of sounds familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it. How does Legend know what we're capturing?
"Legend? Where exactly are we going?" Liam asks.
"Downtown. The zoo to be exact. It's a good thing that it's closed today, I don't like using memory erasers."Legend says like it's the most normal thing.
"Memory erasers? You mean to tell me that we can erase peoples memories?" Louis asks, amazed.
"Well I can, not you. I'm the only one with the memory potions." Legend says.
"Oh." Louis says, looking disappointed.
"Hey Legend. You said something about a sphinx; what is that?" Harry asks.
"Good question. A sphinx has the head of a human and the body of a lion. They are capable of human speech and are known for their love of puzzles and riddles. It is likely that it will ask you a riddle, so get ready to think." Legend explains.
"Oh, that doesn't sound so bad." Zayn says.
"Don't let it fool you. The sphinx can be very dangerous." Legend tells him.
"Oh, look. We're here." Niall points out.
"Yes we are. Just remember to stick together. I don't want anyone getting lost, especially with a sphinx wondering around." Legend tells us.
"How do we get in, if this closed?" I ask.
"Looks like we are going to have to climb over the gate. Let's go." Legend says, looking around to make sure the coast is clear.
Liam goes first while the rest of us make sure no one comes along. He makes it looks so easy to climb up a twenty-foot gate, but Liam always makes everything look easy.
Zayn goes next, he has a little trouble, but he gets over pretty easily. Louis looks like spider-man when he climbs. Niall jumps half-way up and climbs the rest. I wonder how he jumps so high. Harry is having trouble, he almost fell. Slowly, but surely he made it.
I wipe the sweat off my hands and start to climb. It definietly isn't easy. I have absolutley no upper body strength, but I manage to get over. Legend is last, he gets over it so effortlessly.
"I bet it's by the lion cages." Harry says.
"That's exactly where it is. Good thinking, Harry." Legend pats him on the back.
The lion cages aren't very far away, so we don't have to walk very far. I hear someone talking, I can't quite make out what they are saying, but it's only one person talking.
"You do know they can't understand you right?" Legend yells out, apparently talking to the unknown person. As we walk closer, I can now see who it is. It's the sphinx.
"Legend Dean, we meet again. I told you I wasn't staying in the magical world forever." Says the sphinx. It has a kind of eery voice.
"Well this time, I'm going to make sure you do." Legend says. looking imitating.
"I'll give you three options: One, you leave here silently and I will forget all about this. Two. you answer my riddle correctly and I'll go with you to the magical world without stuggle. Or third, if your answer incorrectly, I will attack. What is your answer?" The sphinx says.
"Let us hear your riddle." Legend says without hesitation.
"First think of a person who lives in disguise, who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies. Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend, The middle of middle and end of the end? And finally give me the sound often heard, During the search for a hard-to-find word. Now string them together and answer me this. Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"
I repeat the riddle over in my head, it seems like everyone else is too.
Hmm..lives in disguise..deals in secrets... A spy?
Middle of middle and end of end... D? Like the letter?
Often heard...hard-to-find word.... That's a tough one. What creature would I be unwiling to kiss?
I GOT IT!!
"A SPIDER! The answer is a spider!" I yell and everyone looks at me.
"Ashlyn Lockhart, I'd know your face anywhere. You are correct, my child. I shall come with you peacefully." The sphinx says
"Good job,Ashlyn." Legend pats me on the back and put the sphinx on a leash.
"Yeah, I would've never thought of that." Louis says.
"Come on guys. Let's go see the magical world." Legend says
