We were walking.
Under the dim street light which only knew to flicker. I couldn't look at him. He'd see my face that looked even worse than the 'ugly duck' about which my grandma told me stories. We were far away from happiness and not even close to sadness. We didn't know why we were walking midnight firstly and secondly where...
He was my childhood crush. Isn't anymore. But the very thought makes me feel guilty. Makes me tremble. What if he knew?
My eyes glistened to the light. My mother once told me that eyes make us pretty. Nothing else. But that's for my comfort. What's beauty with just eyes of a Swan and face of a crow.Who'd like someone who's so clumsy and so sweaty. Not the prince charming I'd want.

We walked for so long that my legs were ready to drift apart. He somehow understood. Without looking at me. And just sat down on the footpath. Oblivious of any other being existing. We hadn't looked at each other. Not once. What would the Mr. Popular of our school have to do with Ms. Ugly. Nothing.I think I'm dreaming. We don't talk. There's only silence. An odd one.He didn't care to look but just kept murmuring stuff to himself. Not bothering to tell me what it was. Then when I decided to get up and go back home.I realized I have no idea how I even got out of home to walk along with a person who doesn't know me. 'Ariel?' he finally said something. His voice still had the charm it had seven years ago. When he 'was' my crush.I didn't reply. I knew he was looking at me but I was scared to look back.'Ariel.'He called out again.I bite my lip and let the blood ooze within. I can't speak. I'm too nervous.Another of sign of a loser.'Ariel you know I...' he paused. For a second I almost turned my head up and thought to look into his eyes. But NO.I'm still the same stubborn, timid, clumsy girl who hates everything.I get up and run all the way home.*after 15 mins of running*'where's my house?'
'Ariel!' I heard him again.I don't care to look back. 'there is no home' he said
'What?!' I finally said, squeaked actually.
'We're one of the few people who survived...' his voice cracked and I heard sniffles..
