Hey guys! So I'm gonna release this first chapter since it's been a while. This book will be more chapters than the first book, and things will flow more nicely, at least in my opinion.
So I hope you'll enjoy the second book of the Assassin Codes! Updates will be scattered but I will get chapters out asap.
P.S. if you don't remember things very well just re-read the last book. It won't take very long.
Enjoy!
After joining the pack, I was anxious all the time. Anyone who approached me made me jump, even Chase. I can't believed I'm one of the most feared assassins, well at least I used to be.
Stuff like this shouldn't scare me but it does. I don't know who to trust around here, all these people are new to me. The only person I feel comfortable with is Chase. He doesn't understand though.
No one does.
"Serenity?"
I jump at the sound of my name being called. I look up to see Chase approaching me. My body quickly relaxes just with his presence. It seems like he's the only remedy to sooth my stress.
"Do you need something Chase?"
"No, I was just looking for you," he says stopping next to me. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I lie, "I'm alright."
"Are you sure?" He asks cautiously.
"Yes," I smile giving him a kiss. "So are you sure you don't need something?" I ask getting up and wrapping my arms around his neck
"Yeah, I'm just worried about you. You've been acting really strange lately."
"Ok fine, I'm just a little worried about the council finding out. I don't want them to take us apart."
"They won't," he growls, "and it'd be smart for them not to try." He holds me tight and I struggle to breath.
"Ch-Chase," I gasp, "can't, breathe."
"Oh I'm sorry," he says releasing his hold.
"It's fine, I get that you're worried. I'm sure everything will be fine. My parents are going to find a way to handle it. Supposedly they are going to tell the council that I was called by some aristocrat to do a private job."
"How long does a private job take?" He asks, confused.
"They can take months to years."
"That's good isn't it?"
"Not unless someone finds out I'm here."
I walk over to the chair and sit down. This amount of stress is honestly going to kill me.
"Everything is going to be fine," says Chase walking closer towards me.
"Just, go do whatever work it is you need to do. I just need some time alone to think."
"Are you sure?" He asks, not wanting to leave me.
"Yes, now go." He walks off in the direction of his office and I slowly pull myself off the couch. I walk outside and stretch my arms. It's been a while since I've shifted. I haven't really done it often, but I might as well go for a run.
I begin to shift and the pain is almost excruciating.
Damn Serenity! I curse at myself. I really need to shift more often, it's not good for me to stay human all the time. Stretching out my now wolf body, I prance around before sprinting into the woods.
