Jem
For the rest of the day daddy made me pack my bags to get ready to leave for Louisiana. I really didn't want to go.

"Your grandmother is gonna be picking you up." Daddy started.

"She says she has a room set up for you and everything." I rolled my eyes not wanting to do this.

"She says you have so many cousins, most of them are boys but there is a girl there who is about your age or one year older than you I think."

I stayed silent. Daddy sighed and stopped what he was doing and leaned up against the wall.

"Look sweetheart I know you don't want to go but this is only for the rest of the school year and the following summer it's not forever. And trust its a lot of fun there when your older, your mother and I had the time of our lives."

Daddy wasn't from Louisiana he was from Texas but every chance he got he would go down to Louisiana just to see my mom.

I sighed. "Daddy how am I supposed to fit all of my purses and heels in just two suitcases?

"Well your not going to be able to take everything sweetheart."

I frowned. "What?"

"Look just pack what you love and leave the rest for storage."

With that daddy left me with all of this crap to pack by myself. I sighed and packed up the rest of my things.

By the next morning I was already at the airport about to board my flight. Before I gave the lady my ticket I turned around and faced my daddy. I was trying my best not to break down and cry. I never left my daddy's side after my mom died so this was going to be hard.

"Alright don't worry this is going to be quick trust me, you'll be home before you know it." My daddy said giving me a hug and a kiss on the forehead.

After a few more long hugs I was off to Louisiana.

After the flight I got my bags and sat on the bench where the pickup zone was. I looked around trying to see if I recognized anyone but I could barely remember. After awhile I started to feel a little bit nervous and butterflies were forming in my stomach.

I sighed and crossed my legs before I heard someone calling my name.

"Is that my Jem?!" Someone screamed. I looked up and saw my grandma running towards me with open arms. It was so weird how much my mom looked like her.

"Girl if you don't get up and hug your grandma." I smiled and stood to my feet for her to almost squeeze the life out of me.

She took a minute to step back and examine my face.

"You've grown up so much." She started. "Alright let's go I got your baby cousin Michael in the care and I don't need to go to jail today."

I frowned at her comment and made my way towards the car.

When I got in the car there was cute little baby boy sitting in the back that I assumed was my cousin Michael.

"That's your cousin Taylor's son, she working today so I gotta babysit."

"Taylor?" I asked.

"She's your moms sister daughter, she's about a year older then you." She said pulling out of the airport.

"And she has a kid already??" I asked kind of shocked.

"Yeah she got into some trouble cause she was being fast but you know that ain't nothing knew in our family, but we're over that now cause Michael is worth everything." She said smiling.

"And your father told that you weren't too happy about coming here but don't worry I'm gonna make sure you enjoy yourself." She said before she pinched my cheek.

I smiled and looked out the window trying to think about happy thoughts so I can at least try to enjoy myself while I'm here.
