Hi My name is Zack and I am a high school student. Going to high school is not always easy, especially when you go to one of the top 25 high schools in the country. As administration is strict I will change names to avoid the high school knowing its them and try to change all names I can.

I am nervous as I walk in the door of my new school, Ridgeland College Prepatory. Being the number 1 High School in the state and one of the top 25 in the Nation a lot is at stake here.

As soon as I walk in I see a couple people from my old school, well more than a couple. 23 other students from my old school now attend Ridgeland also.

"Zack!", my friend Maria screams across the lobby. "We need to compare schedules! NOW!".

"Alright, alright! Here is my schedule let us hope we at least have one class together", I say while grinning. "Hopefully it's a dull class to so we can help each other through it". Little did I know I would get my wish.

"We have Physics together, only class though", Maria says while starting to frown. "Darn and it is with the bad teacher too, Mr. Jones. Let's hope we don't fail this class or else we are screwed for college. (Yes at my school we worry about college in Freshman Year).

"Maybe he is not as bad as they say..I mean common we survived the terrible Algebra teacher at our elementary school, Jefferson. We both did end up passing the Algebra Exit Exam and got placed into Geometry.", I say. "Let us hope these people are wrong".

Maria sadly says, "Alright, but I doubt they are wrong. See you second block!"

"Alright!", I yell. I then run off to my first class, Humanities. I find 6 other student from Jefferson. I really don't talk to 3 of them, Jacob, Ron, and Steve, and definitely think Rita hates me. Luckily I talk to the last two, Ashley and Madison. I quickly take a seat by them just before class starts.

I then look around the class room paying more attention. Pictures of Ancient Rome and Greece are placed around the room and is a big part of the class. However I notice something odd about the class, only 19 students. Maybe in some school districts this is not uncommon but In Ridgeland's this is almost unheard off. The city loves to cram as many kids as it can into every classroom.

As the class goes on the teacher introduces himself as Mr. Lee and explaining and despite Asian sounding is in fact white. He gives the usual first day announcements and a syllabus to read at home.

The bell then rings and I run off to physics and take a seat by Maria and this other girl named Jessica. The class does not seem as bad as people say however it is only the first day. Time will soon eventually tell.

It is then time for Intermediate Band where I discover after a whole summer of not touching it, my trumpet does not seem to play after I oil it. After unsuccessfully trying to adjust the keys I sit there watching the other trumpet players play their instruments. I then rush out for lunch.

I then go to lunch where I sit by Katlyn and Erica two friends I met from orientation. (I know all my friends are chicks but oh well). After briefly taking about our summers I head to my last class of the day, Spanish II.

There I find a Puerto Rican teacher, Ms. Hernandez. She really does not seem to appreciate freshman in her Spanish II class or any white people. Unfortunately I am both. As we review the syllabus we then start discussing the Summer homework packet and the teacher simply sighs when a white sophomore, Lilian has to read a multiple question response. Not showing her displeasure when Lilian gets all her answers right I still bet Ms. Hernandez is angry inside.

The bell rings and the first day is over. I can only think how I have the rest of this year and 3 more years to go.

I spot my mom's green car and get in lugging all my things. "How was school?", she asks.

"It was good", I reply. As you will find out I say this 90% of the time no matter what type of day I had. We then start the half hour drive home. I look at the school and simply hope my classes tomorrow also run smoothly.
