Scream & Whisper (Draco Malfoy)

Chapter 3

Next morning, I woke up and prepared myself for the first day of school. I put make up - just mascara, lipgloss and a little bit of blush. I need blush because my skin is so pale, people start thinking that I am walking corpse. Well I don't wear too much makeup, not like that chick, Pansy Parkinson. I can't imagine her face without make up. I wonder if ever her mother have seen her without it.

I brush my blonde hair and went out of room.

I walked in the Great Hall on the breakfast and saw Draco. He waved at me. I smile and go to him.

"Good morning, guys", I said. Of corse there were Zabini, Creb and Goyle. But not Pansy. Weird.

"Morning, Astrid", they said. I sat down to Draco.

"Where's Pansy?", I asked.

"Dunno and don't care", Blaise said.

"Okay..." Maybe she is sick. Maybe she is dead. Oh my wish.

"We have a lot of free periods this year, you know that?", said Blaise. "It's gonna be awesome!"

"No, it's gonna be boring", Draco spoke for the first time this morning. "What we're gonna do in this stupid school?"

"Well we can always break someone's nose", Blaise said laughing.

Draco gave him a death glare.

"What's wrong, mate? Are you okay?"

"I am", he said. Nobody's believed him of course.

I looked at him. He looked sick. And somehow scared. Like he need to do something or he's gonna die.

"Draco?", I said. Nothing. He didn't even look at me. I didn't know that friendships work like this.

At that moment, my owl Sandy fly over me and give me a letter. I was so happy, it was from my brother James.

Hey girl,
How are you? Are you happy there? I really hope you are and also I hope this year will be the best for you. I know you're not really into making friends, but please Astrid, try! You'll never know what could happen!

I can't wait to tell him! I found friends, James! And you're gonna go crazy when you hear who's my friend! Draco told me he was friend with James, so it's not going to be bad. I hope so.

"Astrid? Earth is calling you!", Blaise said.

"Uh I'm sorry, what?"

"From who is it?", he asked.

"Oh! It's from my brother James", I said grinning.

"Really?", asked Draco.

"Yes."

"Looks like you really love your brother", Blaise said.

"Well, I do." I didn't want to talk about James.

"After breakfast we have to go to Snape. He need to confirm that everybody had achieved the necessary O.W.L grades to continue with their chosen N.E.W.T-s," Blaise said again.

My grades aren't that bad. Actually, they are great:

Astronomy: (A)
Care of Magical Creatures: (E)
Defense Against the Dark Arts:(O)
Divination:(E)
Herbology:(P)
History of magic:(A)
Potions:(O)
Transfiguration:(E)

"I can't wait", Draco said, his voice filled with sarcasm.

"Draco, I want to talk with you", I said glaring at him.

"Why?"

"Because. Now stand up."

He did it and we go outside.

He was all in black, like always. I've never see him wearing some other color beside gray, green or black.

"What's wrong with you this morning?"

"Nothing."

"Don't act like a child, please."

"Girl, you know me for only one day, you will see that this is my usual mood", he said and the way he said girl nearly brought me to my knees. He looked me straight in the eyes and it felt so close.

"Okay, but is there a reason?"

"No", he said.

"I don't believe you."

"You don't have to."

"Okay", I said. "You don't wanna tell me and I'm not gonna ask you anymore."

He smiled. "Fine."

"But you know you can always tell me whatever you want," I finished.

"Thank you."

I wrote a letter to James:

Hello, brother

I have to tell you something great! Yesterday, in the train, one boy came to me and we started talking. You won't believe who is he! Draco Malfoy! He knows you and he tell me that you two were good friends. What happened? You never told me about him. And now, he is my friend. We're hanging out all day. I think he's great!
