I woke up to my phone ringing. I reached over and grabbed the lit up phone. "Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Hi. You busy?" It was my friend Megan.
I yawned, "No. What's up?"
There was a short pause before she began speaking again, "I was wondering if you wanted to go to the mall with me?"
I rubbed my forehead. "Uh.." I said. "Yeah, I guess."
I really had nothing else to do. Harry wasn't going to be back for a while so I had time to waste. I grabbed my purse and headed outside. There was a silver car parked right behind mine. I stopped and tried to see if anyone was in the car. In the driver seat sat a young girl with curly black hair. She was wearing a light green sweater and a grey beanie. Her brown eyes focused on her phone in her hand. I walked up to the car and tapped on the window. The girl looked up and rolled down the window. "Megan, what are you doing here?" I asked.
Megan laughed, "Oh, I thought we could ride together. It would save you gas money."
I shrugged and walked over to the passenger side door. The car smelled like a mixture of coffee, McDonalds, perfume, and lotion. "Sorry about the mess." Megan reached over, grabbed an empty Starbucks cup and tossed it into the back seat.
I laughed and pulled the dark grey seatbelt over my shoulder. "So, how's your relationship with Harry?"
Megan looked over with an excited smile. I shrugged, "It's good."
"That doesn't sound convincing." Megan's smile turned into a small frown.
"Megan, we're great together. We love each other..."
"But?"
"What?" I gave Megan a confused look.
"You trailed off like you were going to say something else. Like a 'but' statement."
I laughed, "What are you talking about?"
Megan punched me in the shoulder, "Dude! I'm your beat friend. You can tell me what's wrong."
I sighed, "Well, I guess I told some old lady that I don't even know. So, I can tell you."
"Old lady? What?"
"Nothing." I laughed. "Anyway, there's just been something strange going on with Harry. I mean, we ran into his ex girlfriend and she told me that Harry doesn't really love me. Then, today he left and just said he had to go do something. He's not going to be home till 5."
Megan shrugged, "It's probably nothing. He's probably just busy or hanging out with some friends."
"That's the problem," I said.
"What do you mean?" Megan said with a puzzled look.
"Well," I said brushing off some dust on my shirt. "Last time he ran into an old friend, it was his ex girlfriend. I don't want him to, you know, be with his ex or anything."
Megan turned the car into the mall parking out. "You sound like an over protective girlfriend to me."
I laughed as we got out of the car, "I'm not over protective!"
Megan rolled her eyes and grabbed her black purse. "Ok. Whatever you say, Alyssa."
We walked into the large mall. The mall was filled with anxious shoppers. We pushed through a group of women talking about their annoying husbands. I walked into Forever 21. Women swarmed around a rack of clothes with smiles on their faces. "What's going on?" I asked a woman who was wearing a red sweatshirt.
"There's a sale! Duh!" She pushed me to the side and walked over to another clothes rack.
I rolled my eyes and pushed through the group of women so I could see what was on sale. Before I could reach the rack, a woman reached toward me, grabbed my hair, and pulled me back away from the rack. I gasped and grabbed the woman's hand. She used her other hand to pull my hand away. "Oh no you don't!" I screamed.
I kicked the woman in the leg and she fell to the ground with a small squeal. She dug her long, pink fingernails into my ankle and pulled down. I fell and landed right beside her. "Megan!" I yelled.
The woman slapped me, "Shut up, idiot!"
"How about you, stupid-"
I was cut off by the woman's fist slamming into my cheek. She quickly stood to her feet and brushed her jeans off. I grabbed onto her leg and tugged down. "Hey! Wh-what are you doing?!" She looked down at me.
With a strong tug, the woman's jeans slid down her tan legs. "Oh my God!!!!" She shrieked and quickly reached down to pull her pants up.
I felt a strong tug and I was pulled to my feet. Megan grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the store. "Alyssa!" She yelled. "What the heck? Why did you do that? I just wanted to go to the mall, not watch a fighting match."
I sighed, "Sorry. I guess I'm just a little moody."
Megan laughed, "It's fine. Let's just go shop. I saw some cute high heels on sale toward the front."
We began walking toward the shoe store in the front. As we walked past a small toy store, I saw a familiar boy standing outside the window display. He was surrounded by some other boys and girls. I grabbed Megan's arm to stop her. Pointing over at the group of people, I asked, "Is that Harry?"
Megan looked over, "It looks like it."
I walked over so I could see the boy more clearly. Sure enough, it was Harry. "Har-" I stopped myself when I could see Harry clearly.
He was holding hands with a beautiful girl. Her hair was brown, curly and down to her shoulders. She smiled at Harry as he wrapped his hand around her shoulder. "Harry!" I screamed as I pushed through the group.
Harry smiled, "Oh hey, Alyssa!"
"Don't 'hey Alyssa' me!" I yanked Harry's arm off of the girl's shoulders.
Harry rubbed his arm, "What's your problem?"
"She's my problem!" I pointed at the girl. "What are you doing with her Harry? You were getting all up on her. I trusted you!"
"What are you talking about? This is my sister, Gemma."
I hesitated, "O-oh um.."
Harry shook his head and grabbed my hand. He pulled me out of the mall and into the parking lot. "What the heck was that?"
"I don't know, Harry. I'm sorry, babe."
"Whatever, Alyssa. We will talk about this when we get home."
I snapped, "Wait! How come I couldn't come with you?"
"You were asleep. I didn't want to wake you up."
I sighed, "I'm sorry, Harry."
Harry didn't say anything. He just kissed me on the forehead and headed back into the mall.
