*Laken's POV*
After the whole smoothie incident I hadn't spoken to Brendon since. It had been 3 weeks. Lucas and I started to get to know each other pretty well after he found me crying that day. What a great first impression, right? Now I was just waiting for him to finally ask me to be his girlfriend.
I had my doubts sometimes. I thought a lot about what I'd said to Brendon that day. Now I realize that it was out of line for me to judge him for his past. He was right, we weren't dating. He had no obligation. I couldn't help it though, I had so many feelings for him that I didn't know I had. It was still cruel what he replied though. I didn't need to know how much of a man whore he really was. If I ever thought about having feelings towards Brendon I just tried to stuff them down and focus on Lucas.
Lucas was great, don't get me wrong. He was probably one of the nicest guys I'd ever met. He was a good guy to hang on too.
I was getting ready to head out to this big party Lucas invited me too in a bigger city 2 hours away. Apparently there were going to be record producers and famous singers there and everything. Things like this don't usually happen close to our town so Lucas payed big money to get us in while we had the opportunity.
My parents weren't crazy about the idea of a big party but graduation was just around the corner and they said I deserved a reward. They trusted Lucas as well, even though he graduated a year ago so he was older. They were over the moon that I met a nice guy with big dreams of being a lawyer. He was the picture perfect guy that parents dream of their little girl dating.
I pulled on a sleek black and white dress that complemented my curves perfectly. I wasn't the most confident person when it came to most of my features but my body was one thing I was proud of. I liked staying active to keep a toned figure.
I slipped on my heels and touched up my makeup before I heard a knock at my door.
I checked my appearance in the mirror one more time and walked downstairs to open the door.
Lucas stood in the door way nervously shuffling his feet with his hands in his pocket. His brown hair was getting longer and covered his forehead now. It was a look that not many guys could pull off anymore but damn did he make it work. He wore black pants with a white shirt and black tie. We hadn't really planned it but we matched pretty well.
"Wow," he said, "You look nice."
I blushed, "You too," I responded.
We said our good byes to my parents and after millions of jokes about curfew and how my dad would be waiting for him we climbed into his car.
I quickly plugged my phone in and started playing Fall Out Boy. I was jamming with the windows down and singing my heart out when suddenly the music stopped.
"What is this kind of music?" Lucas asked.
I looked over at him with a huge grin. I loved talking about my music. "It's Fall Out Boy! I love them along with twenty one pilots."
"You seriously like that stuff? Isn't that considered emo or something like that? I didn't peg you as one of those kind of people." he answered.
"One of those kind of people? Wait do you have a problem with it?" I asked.
He shook his head, keeping his eyes on the road. "I mean, you can like what ever you want but can we listen to something else when we're in my car?"
He didn't know it but those words felt like a knife. I didn't answer him as he turned on the radio and I pulled out my earbuds. I cranked the volume up and listened to my music the whole way to the party. The night had barely started and I was already mad. Perfect.
We finally pulled into the parking lot of the club where the party was, putting an end to the awkward car ride.
We entered the club and explored everything that was going on. There were live bands performing, some already famous and established and some who no one had ever heard of. They were probably trying to get a record deal.
Lucas didn't seem all that into the music from the new bands (surprise) but I was. I was always on the look out for new bands to listen too. I tried to ignore the fact that he wasn't into it like me and I focused on the important things, like how he had big lawyer dreams. Yay.
We made our way over to the drink bar.
"Two of gin and tonic please," Lucas ordered.
As we waited for our drinks Lucas looked over at me. "Look, I'm sorry about the car. It's not my kinda thing but I know you like it. Sorry."
I didn't answer him and instead looked down at my feet.
He lifted up my chin with his index finger, making me look him in his green eyes. "Laken, will you be my girlfriend?" he asked.
A million thoughts flashed through my head at that moment. What about Brendon? I realized that Lucas was waiting for an answer so I had to say something.
I nodded, "Yes."
He grinned at me and then his lips were on mine. I didn't give in right away, but I started to kiss him back. He was a good kisser, I'll give him that.
We were still kissing when I heard it. A familiar voice started singing into the microphone.
Sit tight, I'm gonna need you to keep time
C'mon, just snap, snap, snap your fingers for me
Good, good, now we're making some progress
Come on just tap, tap, tap your toes to the beatI broke the kiss with Lucas and turned my attention to the stage where I saw him. Brendon and 3 other boys were performing.
Wait, Brendon sang?
Wait, Brendon was here?
