A taunting blur of dark, monochrome shades obnoxiously pass your panicked form as you sprinted desperately through the undergrowth. The fog-filled scenery ahead and all around you, once was a source of beauty and tranquillity, now suffocated you. You have long since lost track of just how long you had been running for but the adrenalin and the not too distant clinking of towering, mechanical legs forces you to keep going. Your aching muscles prayed that you would stop and give them a well needed rest from the continuous running they've endured. You cannot take this torture any longer. Weakened bones collapse under your weight as you soon make contact with the cold, unwelcoming earth. Clink, clink. Your heart sinks as those dreaded industrial sounds reverberated and inched closer to your exhausted form. Clink, clink. Individual pieces of rusted metal buckle and contort with each movement that brought the entity towards you. Closer still until a frigid shadow towers over your frail and defenceless body. It had you now.
You awake with a jarring start and try to compose yourself as you let the events of the dream sink in. Every single night for the last seven nights that volatile thing had managed to close the distance towards you no matter much and how desperately you tried to escape. It was hopeless now. It had finally caught up with you. You feel your whole body become overwhelmed with fatigue when you attempted to sit up. Why were these horrific nightmares becoming so real to you? Did they mean anything in particular or were they just like the other nonsensical nightmares that you normally experienced? You were far too shaken to concentrate on it too much. The only thing you felt like doing was escaping anything that remotely reminded you of that thing. The entity. It had gotten way too close for comfort now. 'Clam down', you try to convince yourself to relax. 'It can't hurt you, it was only a dream'. But was it really? You rub your tired eyes before straining them to see the time displayed on your bedside clock. 3:00 am. Great, you had to get up in three hours and it would be impossible for you to fall into the peaceful grip of slumber after that alarming nightmare. A prolonged sigh of frustration escaped your lungs as you position yourself on your side and try to get comfortable. Almost blinding moonlight cuts through your heavy eyelids, forcing you to reluctantly open them again. Half expecting to find a grotesque creature bearing mechanical limbs and staring in at you from the other side of the window. 'You're overreacting', you think to yourself. This thought provides only a small amount of petty reassurance but just enough to give you the confidence needed to get up, walk over the cold, worn-out carpet and close the blinds. This immediately resulted in your bedroom being engulfed by a stifling darkness. You are alone in your house, you cannot see anything and the entire house is filled with absolute silence. At least, apart from the distant but all too familiar clinking sound growing ever closer.
