We arrived in Columbus, where everywhere we turned around, we were getting mobbed. I missed just being my normal self, but I loved the thought of being the famous singer I had always wanted to be. We were at the end of summer, but still in Columbus on the same day we saw my parents. I missed playing softball, and I missed watching softball games, in reality. I sighed and thought to myself.

I got on my computer to Skype my parents to see what they were up to now, and they were just helping Liz with her pitching. She is a softball pitcher, and she is good at it! I heard someone come up beside me, and I looked to see who it was. It turned out to be Niall. "What's wrong Mel? You seem bummed."

“I miss watching my sister play softball, and I miss her team.” Even though they were her teammates, I was just as close to every single one of them as they were to Liz.

“Is there anything I can do to help?” He replied, not knowing how to answer.

“No, but thank you”

“For what?”

“Your concern makes me feel better. It makes me feel like no matter what happens, you will always be there for me”.

He got up and went to play the new FIFA game, which I had no interest in playing. I am not a soccer fan, so I just started listening to music. I then realized that I needed a shower. I jumped in the shower, and started singing. As my phone was on shuffle, Bring Me To Life by Evanescence came on. This was my favorite song to sing of all time. As the time and the song passed by, I jumped out of the shower, the song still playing. I put my clothes back on, and put makeup on while I continued singing. Louis came into my room where I was putting makeup on. “What is that song?”

“Bring me to Life by Evanescence. Why?” I answered

“You sung that amazingly. I love that song, and that was gorgeous. I don’t care what you say, you are singing that song to open for us on Wednesday.”

“I had planned on it, but nobody was supposed to know”. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise, but he almost squeezed it out of me.

My phone started buzzing, so I picked it up and looked at the number. “Do you know who this is?” I asked.

“No, I’ll answer it for you. Hello? Ahhh yes, one moment please Uncle Simon. -He handed the phone to me. ‘It’s Simon wishing to talk to you about opening for us, and potentially a record deal.”

“Hello?” I almost asked

“Melanie? Hi, my name is Simon Cowell”

“Hi,” I didn’t know what else to say, so I stopped there.

“Listen, the boys tell me that you are an amazing singer, and that they want me to cancel our other opening act to have you open for them. Is this correct?”

“I guess so, yes” I answered

“Well, don’t worry. I sent Louis to record you singing any way that he could get it out of you.”

“Okay, that’s good. I wasn’t sure what he was doing on his phone, but now it all adds up.”

“I just got the recording from Louis, so I am going to put you on hold to listen while I listen to this”

I waited about a minute before he picked back up. “You are on the tour.” He said, then hung up.

Well, that was weird. After I finished putting the rest of my makeup on, and drying my hair, I went to find the boys. I just realized that we were stopped. I looked for them everywhere on the bus, when I decided to look in the bunks one more time. They weren’t there, and when I tried to turn around, I felt something go over my eyes. I began using every defensive move I had learned, when I heard a man groan. I knew that if I just continued kicking upwards, I would hit them in the manhood. Whoever it was, they could really tie a knot, and they got me off the bus. I went with them, and heard a squeak out of them every once in a while.

They stopped me, and finally told me who they were. “Mel, it is me, Harry” Oops.. Oh well.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” I asked him, trying to undo my blindfold.

“I have a surprise for you, well not me, but Niall.”

He undid my blindfold for me, and we were at the biggest set of softball fields I’ve ever known. I found Niall at the Donato’s stand.

“Niall, what is all of this?” I asked him

“You said you missed watching softball games. While it isn’t Liz, I thought it may help."

I just kissed him on the cheek, to thank him. I felt someone hugging me from behind. I looked at Niall questioningly, and he shrugged. I turned around to see my other best friend, Brandi. “AHHHHH BRANDI! I HAVEN’T SEEN YOU IN FOREVER! What are you doing here?” I asked her

“Coach set up a tournament here”

I knew the coach from before I had stopped playing for a year to focus on attempting to become a singer.

We talked for about an hour before her next game was supposed to start. Niall stayed with me to watch her game, then we left.

“That was so much fun, I miss it so much.” I said.

We went to the hotel for the night, and got into our rooms. I, was of course with Niall, Louis with Harry, Liam with Zayn and Paul by himself. I showered earlier, so I was okay for the night. “I am going to lay down” I told Niall.

“Alright. I will be there in a few minutes.” He told me.

I just laid on the bed, thinking about other songs I could sing to open for the boys. Niall walked in and out of the bathroom. I closed my eyes, and heard Niall singing through the door of the bathroom. I used this to almost fall asleep. When I heard the door open again, I didn’t bother looking. Niall crawled into bed, with his sweats on, and hummed me to sleep.

I woke up the next morning with my head on Niall’s chest and his arms around me. I don’t know how we got like this, but I liked it. I squirmed to see what time it was. Niall mumbled with his morning voice “Stop squirming”.

“Niall, it is 11:30, we have to get up.” I told him unwillingly. As we got up, I remembered the date. This is one month from the date that I met One Direction. I smiled to myself.

Tonight, the boys and I had the first gig of the tour. Oh. My. Gosh. I can’t believe that tonight, I am going to be performing in front of thousands of screaming girls (and guys). I just cannot fathom this.

Nothing happens throughout the day, we ate lunch, walked around, went back to the hotel, and left to get ready for the concert. I felt like a lost puppy, so I just followed Niall around. It was time for me to go on stage and sing my 3 songs, which were Pictures of You, Bring me to Life, and Roar. I needed no pushing on stage, since this was my dream. I jogged to center stage and sang my heart out. I was getting booed a little bit, but this didn’t bother me one bit. I know that not everybody will like me, or my choice in music. As I finished with Katy Perry’s Roar, I thanked the crowd, and jogged off stage. I handed my mic to one of the stage crew members. He was very polite, and said I did a good job. I thanked him, and walked to the edge of the stage to watch the boys perform.

As the boys finished with Live While We’re Young, they ran offstage. Just as they came off, I told them they did a good job tonight. “Did you hear that crowd? I think that is the loudest a crowd has ever been for us.” Louis said.

The boys showered quickly, then we headed to the tour bus to head to the next stop. Nobody was paying attention to where we were going, so we just ignored it. We showered again, and went to the bunks. We all slept soundly, until the sound of car horns woke us up. We all thought it was someone’s alarm clock, and since we were already fighting, we just decided to get up. Rush hour hit us at about 8 am. I went to the kitchen and started cooking chocolate chip pancakes for everyone.

After rush hour cleared up a bit, we were sitting at a stop light, when I felt the bus jerk forward, then to the right, then forward more, then to the left. We were in the middle of an intersection near Columbus when something hit us even harder from the right, and forced the bus to tip over. I hit my head a couple of times, cut something on broken glass, and blacked out.
