Now, the story is about to change.

Yes, the boy was alone in a world of his own, but even then, the factual work was as busy as ever.
People of all shapes and sizes lived and thrived.
But this girl in particular, burgeoned faster than the other girls her age. Alone, the girl would sit in her room, listening to the bantering and bickering of her parents.
It was so constant, that she almost found the shouting soothing, and would often find herself day dreaming.
The girl had a lot of time to herself, so day dreaming was a hobby of hers. Often, her parents would stop bantering with each other enough to yell at the girl for being so mute. But the girl wouldn't complain. Not verbally. For she had learned, that being verbal, was not always the best choice.

On this particular day, the girl sat on her slanted roof, and watched down below as children interacted with others. Such as riding a bike, a scooter, and for the simple minded, would at least sit and talk.
So why, the girl wondered, couldn't she join them? Was she afraid of what they would think of her? Surely she would get along with one of them.
But before the girl could make a decision, she was interrupted.

The shrill sound of her mothers shouting plucked her into reality.

"Audrey!" Her voice was close to the girls room. "Audrey darling have you seen my coat?" The sound of heels clicking against wood fallowed until a petite woman, with wild eyes and hair of gold, stood in the girls doorway. She had both hands close to her ear as she placed a diamond stud in. Her hair was pinned up to perfection, and she wore a dress which cost more money than it should.
The girl left the roof top, entering her small room. It was furnished with only a bed and dresser, but she never seemed to mind.
Yet, she thought, it would've been nice to have a vanity. One, she imagined, which had a mirror that showed a new version of herself. A version where she was her true self.

"Audrey darling are you listening? You father and I have decided to go out."  The girl focused on her mother. She was standing over her dresser, repining her hair. She patted it in place before looking at the girl.
"Oh darling. We won't be out long."
The girl only nodded. She had nothing to say. She hadn't been surprised to hear that they were leaving at this time of night.
They always left her.

Her mother smiled, and it went all the way to her eyes. "Goodnight Audrey."
And the woman did the strangest thing. It both shocked, and comforted the girl. Her mother, for the first time in years, kissed her
on the top of her delicate head.
