After Rosalie took Renesmee down stairs and Jacob left to go wallow in self pity, I tried to save my wife. My reson for existing, my true love, soul mate, a human girl that begged for immortality. As I look for a syringe with my venom, I hear it. The sound of a heart stuttering, trying to bring blood to her body.
"No baby, please don't leave me!" Icry with broken, dry ripping sobs. " Don't leave me yet!"
As I listen for more heartbeats, I realize that I can hear a strange heartbeat downstairs. Renesmee. My beautiful baby girl. The one that has most of the beauty that the dieing person in front of me shows. My oasis. My safe harbor.
The sound that I'd become so accustomed to, the sound of my Bella's heartbeat suddenly stopped. She took a deep breath and stopped.
She looked peaceful in death. Beautiful even. But as I stare at the woman I've come to love. I come to my senses. I scream, I yell all the things I need to say, but all the comes out is a ripping sob. I, Edward Cullen, have killed my wife. She died under my watch. I failed her. As I try and save her, I realize that she cannot be saved. Eyes closing, breathing quickening, I collpase to my knees. Standing up, eyes still closed, I kiss my Bella one last time.
Leaving my dead bride, I go down the stairs at a slow, antagonizing speed. At the bottom, I am met with hugs from my two "adoptive" sister. As I cry, I hear a voice in my head. Goodbye, it tries to say.
Goodbye my Bella, my only love.
