CHAPTER 1 - IT WAS A LEAP

There is nothing worse than a bad temper and a huge range of curses. In fact, there is nothing worse than Tyler Lockwood being in a bad mood and using these curses, because between you and me he knew a lot. Like hell, shit, fuck and screwyouscrewyouscrewyou with a lot of exclamation marks and plenty of saliva was Tyler's first nature.

As a matter of fact, the previously mentioned reaction was a must when he realized that Elena was missing. How idiotic, careless, reckless and drunk was he? He seriously left his car wide open -although that wouldn't be a problem for someone strong (cough vampire)- and went out to a bar for just "a little tiny drink", leaving his friend unprotected and defend less? Great one Tyler. You certainly deserve the award for the biggest idiot of the year.

He turned off his cellphone just in case someone decided to call and ask with a happy voice: "hey, Ty, how is our friend Elena? You lost her and you have no clue where she is? Take the award of the friend of the year! oh, it is not enough? Then take the award of the most responsible person in this earth!" Yeah Tyler couldn't deal with all that drama right now. He wouldn't live to see another day if Enzo -or worse, Damon- found out that he had lost Elena's casket along with her.

Step number two was to calm down. There was only one logical answer to the question "where is Elena Gilbert?" She couldn't walk all by herself and she was missing from the back of his trunk. Sensible answer: a vampire stole her so he or she could take the cure out of her.

You have to be kidding me, Tyler thought and looked at his bare hands. He was a nobody at the time, a simple non important weak guy who didn't even have a single vervain grenade in his backpack. He could never hunt down Elena's kidnapper and get alive out of it. He would be ripped off before he could say the word asshole. On the other hand, if he decided to abandon his childhood friend, change name and continent and live along with farmers, Damon would truck him down and rip apart every inch of his tanned hairy body. Besides, Elena was his friend. More than that maybe. He had known her his entire life. She was a part of who he was. She was the reason he learned how to draw a pony in kindergarten and he was the reason she learned how to ride one in middle school. He could never stand the thought of leaving her in the hands of a ruthless vampire who wanted to get rid of his strength, speed and eternal life? The hell, maybe this vampire wasn't as ruthless as he thought. She may be a five hundred year old woman who wanted kids and wrinkles.

Tyler entered his trunk and reached after only five minutes of driving the speed of one hundred eighty five km/h. Only then did he realized that he had no clue where she could be. By now, her kidnapper must have been pretty far.

He got out of the car and smelled the atmosphere. His trucking skills were always his strong point. He could definitely recognize the faint scent of an immortal to the left side of the crossover he was stuck at. It smelled like dust, bags and was that Chanel he was detecting? Of course it was Chanel, it was just as sweet as it was supposed to be with the right amount of cinnamon and lemon smell. What? Caroline had taught him everything about female fragrances. It wasn't his fault he was so well educated on that field.

Tyler decided to go to the left but he had a quite crucial dilemma. A car would be quite noticeable and big to hide while, on the other hand, it would be faster than his two common legs and it would help him carry the casket again. No matter what he would chose though he had already lost precious time and the vampire was already in a -more- advantaged position. Or maybe... He looked up in the spring sky and caught the moon, big and golden - one week left before full moon.

Maybe she -because usually a she is pouring Chanel all over her body- had already taken the cure and had already killed Elena in an attempt to grab what she wanted. Or maybe she didn't know the exact way to extract the cure out of her system and she needed some guidance to do it right. Either way, he needed to be capable of defending himself. If he was to protect Elena and defeat a vampire he needed to be stronger. If he wanted to get away of Damon -in case the deadly vampire lost either his chance to become human or the love of his life- he needed to be faster. Tyler Lockwood probably had still time. He could only take advantage of it however, if he was fast, strong and on his six senses all the time. If he wasn't on his human form.
