Our Beloved Lucky

Chapter Two

Flashback 

We walk into the animal shelter. I have a huge grin splashed across my face. I knew this was going to work. We give the puppy to the lady and she gets on to help it straight away. After about ten minutes, the little puppy with little bandages all around, was handed back to me. It looked back at me with grateful eyes. Then, I understood that I wasn't the only person who wanted it, it wanted me as well. 

"Dad, can you please let me keep it because the lady says that they have ran out of room in the shelter?"

She knew me too well. I wink at her and she immediately knows my plan. I have been here thousands of times with the hope of getting a pet one day and we always talk about it. Her name is Jessica, I already knew that but I am just going to pretend to Dad that I have only met her for the first time today.  

"Yes, I'm afraid, your daughter is right. We have a lot of animals currently in the shelter, it would be very hard for me and my fellow workers to handle it. But, you can still leave it here if you like. We can manage it." 

"Oh, um.. Do you know when some of the animals would be let out because you see, my wife doesn't like dogs. But, we will keep it. We don't want you to go through extra trouble. We can keep it but for maximum three weeks."

The lady smiled at Dad sweetly. 

"Yes, we would have room in three weeks time."

I smiled cheerfully. I was so happy, I started doing my little dance in my head. Then, the little puppy leaped out of my arms and started jumping up and down. It knew exactly what was going on and was just as excited as I was.

Present Day

"Bella, sweetie, it's time to go." Mum said softly. I was thinking about all the good times I had with Lucky.

"But, I want to stay longer."

"Darling, we can always come tomorrow or another day."

And, that was it. I stood up, look at Lucky's grave once more and leave. I knew this would be the last time I would be actually seeing the grave because if I go back there, I am just going to break down all over again.
