Present Day

I put the newspaper aside and went into the kitchen to get the orders. I didn’t even realize that time flew by and my shift was already over. I think it was because I was too caught up by so many orders and all the people coming in and out of the diner. I timed out and when back home to change. I wanted to take a nap for a few hours before I go back to Nostalgia for my night shift.

Nostalgia. The place was pretty much crowded already even though it was just 8 in the evening. Lights were flickering and the resident DJ for tonight was Malik. Thank goodness the club was able to book him because he was actually one of the resident DJ’s of one of the most famous clubs down Miami, Florida which is Bamboo. I greeted him before I headed towards the bar, and tend to the impatient drunk men who seriously had to sober up a bit. Someone shouted one vodka Alicia!  I turned my head to see who it was. He was the guy from the other night who ordered the same thing from me. I started getting goose bumps because all I wrote on my bio-data was Ali, and this was the same name printed onto my name tag.

The problem was that I didn’t know who the guy was, I walked up to him and gave him one bottle of vodka and a shot glass. I looked at him closer but it was a blur, different colored lights flickering all around the club made it harder for me to focus more at his face. All that was clear to me was his arms and neck was full of tattoos. He was wearing a v-necked white shirt with his hair all messed up. I finished attending to him and turned around but he grabbed me by my arm real tight.

Where do you think you are going Alicia?

                Who are you?

Why are you walking away from me? Don’t you want to accompany me?

Why should I? There are plenty of girls on the dance floor, pick and you can fuck any of them!

Woah! Chill, beautiful I came here for one purpose and that is to be with you.

I don’t even know who you are and you tell me that you want me to be with you?

Smart girl! I didn’t have to explain that much eh?

Seriously let me go or I’ll scream and you’ll never be able to come back here!

He turned me around real fast once and his face was inches away from mine. Using his other hand, he caressed my cheeks and I felt it go warm as his cold hand sent electric shocks against my skin.

You like it don’t you? look at that your cheeks are red!

I jerked my arm away from his reach and went back to attending the other customers. That was rude for a costumer but, seriously he seemed like he was serious, and for the first time for how many years of my life, it seems like someone is going to take me seriously this time. A Shirley temple was left at the counter for me with a note stuck to it, see you around Alicia. This dude was such a creeper, I didn’t know who he was but, he knew who I was, who the fuck is that guy? Seriously I will try to find a way to see him again. He took up most of my time at the club and I was seriously pissed off, who guy would do that to me? But I was lucky to be bought a drink because actually this only happens once in a blue moon.

It was already 1 in the morning when I signed off from Nostalgia. It was such a tiring night, cleaning up the crap of other people but, what else could I do? This is the life that was mean for me,  well that is what i think. Work was the only option for me when i started running out of food and money, I can't run back to my parents because i turned my back on them, and its too late right now to come running back and standing in front of their door. I just can't expect them to open the door for me and smile and hug me, it isn't the same, that was the past, i guess i would just have to face my future alone, without my family, without--anyone.
