Some peoples view of depression.

At about 06:27 am, 8th of July, a very close friend of mine who struggles with depression approached me on skype. He had just been speaking to the girlfriend of one of his best friends, who had been saying that she was depressed the day before, but acted as happy as usual on this day. He was checking up on her, of course, to see how she was doing and she had misused the word "depression".

What she was feeling was sadness. My friend pointed it out to her and he had previously mentioned the period he has been depressed, to where she said "Don't you want to do anything about it?"

That's the thing bothering me.

It bothers me that so many people in society believes that depression will just go away over night, or that you can just "think positive". That all your worries will go away just because they tell you that you have nothing to worry about.

The depression is there for a reason, created by some kind of traumatic event that haunts their mind and make them struggle to deal with things, but to say "Don't you want to do anything about it?" is near enough something unacceptable to say to a person who suffers from depression. They deal with the problem every day. Each passing second, minute, hour. They don't always know what they can do to help themselves, and if the person they entrust with their worries has such an ignorant attitude towards them, how are they going to get better? They entrust you with it for a reason, not to recieve your "think positive thoughts". I have one question.

How are they going to think positive thoughts when their minds are blurred with the reason they're depressed, or the fact they're unaware why they're depressed?

Being depressed is not easy, and taking care of a depressed person is not easy either. They'll struggle to adapt to every day activities, and the ones helping them needs to understand that sometimes, they just need to be alone.
