ANDY
Waking up this morning was a struggle. My head was pounding from the alcohol that left me a nasty hangover and a nasty taste. I struggle to recount all the mistakes I made last night. Drank too much. CHECK. Hooked up with Thomas. CHECK. Forgot to call mom. CHECK. Didn't stop Lucas from cheating on Kristi. CHECK. "What a successful night." I turn onto my stomach and feel my pillow soaked from my wet hair. "Fuck."
Loosing all energy to actually stand from bed I roll off and fall flat on my face. Face down in a pile of wet clothes, I contemplate if the first day is actually worth attending. A knock comes at my door and a head peeks in between the crack.
"You up?" he asks.
"Of course I am, I'm on the floor." Looking over my arm Lucas strides in and takes a seat next to me. The bags below his eyes and the messiness of his blonde hair indicate that his night was probably worse than mine. He is slumped over and his odor is repelling. I move my hand from under my body and give him a shove in the other direction.
"How bad did I mess up?" there is fear in his eyes.
"Lucas I didn't even see you last night." A loud sighs comes from a place I never even knew he had.
"Andy, I remember you coming into the bathroom." I was trying to play dumb but he unfortunately remembered more than I thought.
"Lucas, you were drunk, you didn't..."
"Andy, tell it to me straight, how bad did I mess up?"
"Bad, you messed up pretty bad." I think I see a tear escape his eye but it is quickly whipped away by his hand.
"What do I do?"
" Well first you can go take a shower because atleast one of us deserves that much." I see a smile sneak from his lips and this makes me do the same. While he goes to shower I prepare a simple outfit. A pair of blue jeans matched with a army green tank top. I put on little makeup to hide any remains of last night and throw my wet hair into a messy bun. The smell of morning breakfast doesn't keep my upstairs long. I run down the stairs and take a seat at the island. My mother stands over the stove, next to her is a stack of pancakes piled high. Her blonde brown hair cascades down her back in thin waves. She has a young face for fifty, her sea blue eyes always grabs the attention of old men.
After minutes of uncomfortable silence my mom speaks up. "Fun night?"
"You don't know the half of it." I mumble to myself. She turns around now facing me.
"So fun you couldn't remember where your key was." I stay silent. "Aiden couldn't get both of you in the house without waking me." audible sniffles come from her. "Your brother was in worse shape than you, Andy what happened?"
I shrug my shoulders. "A rough night mom, I'm sorry" I know my words don't make up for how she felt last night, as a single mother she is constantly worried about Lucas and I. My father left when we were twelve and ever since we have been our mothers main focus. She puts most of her time not only into our well being but into her job and her success.
"When Aiden came to the door I believed something happened to the two of you, you guys are all I have." The tears start to fall from my own eyes and I go to her and give her the tightest hug. When Lucas comes down stairs I wave him over and he holds her until she yells at him for suffocating her.
"So, grounded for life." he jokes.
"Just don't scare me like that again." With those words she makes some last minute perfections to the breakfast and serves it. We talk and laugh until all the food is eaten and the dishes are in the sink. Giving us both a kiss on the head mom heads upstairs to get dressed for work, being as she asked to come in late because she wanted to see us off. Lucas grabs the key off the mantel and we are out the door and to the car. Lucas takes the place in the driver seat while I sit comfortably in the passenger seat. Turning on a popular radio station we let that fill the silence for a couple of minutes.
