I sighed as I pulled into the local JC Penney's parking lot. I blew a loose strand of brown hair that was falling on my over sized forehead. I slammed the teal car do shit and clutched my messenger bag tightly.
A group of obnoxious teenage girls toddled past me, doubling over in laughter. I warily looked at them from the corner of my eye, and caught the one with voluminous hair and a sneer plying on her face peering over at me. I quickly turned away.
These girls came every Tuesday to mock the employees( including me) and trash the store. The only Reno they haven't been fined or banned, is because the fathers own some of the most successful businesses in Sunderland.
Sunderland was a relatively small city about twenty miles north of Ocean City, Maryland. It gets a decent amount of tourist, but only because half of them truly believe Sunderland is the name of a gigantic water park.
" Donna!" my boss, Marcus snapped my out of the pointless thoughts that littered my head. I inwardly groaned, but you can't blame me. The guy was a serious pest.
He has had a strange liking to me every since I applied for this job three years ago. Most of him despises me and wants to cook me in a boiling hot vegetable stew. But, strangely enough, that small part of him has a slight caring for me.
I walked towards the source of his voice, the changing rooms. Marcus finally spotted me and gave me a tight lipped smile.
" I need you to man the changing rooms. We don't want another accident like last week, do we?" he asked. I shook my head no, last time they kicked one of the doors in while a woman was getting changed.
" Just, don't let them come in, ok? I don't want you to get hurt," he told me, his voice softening. " Now, et a move on!" his grey eyes hardened again.
I simply nodded and walked towards the entrance curtain.
It was very calm, only soon-to-be moms and small families coming. As I was trying to stop myself from dozing off, I heard a loud clatter coming from the lingerie section. I groaned, they were close.
" Hey, let's go see Donna!" a girly voice suggested. There was murmurs of agreement, a suddenly the group appeared.
I stood up, and frowned. They, however, did t get the message.
" Hi Donna, how's the speaking lessons going? Can you communicate like humans?" Lily, one of the dumbest girls in Sunderland taunted. I squeezed my eyes shut.
I didn't really stutter that much, only when I was extremely nervous or tired, or even excited.
" Why won't you talk to us? That's not how to treat your loyal customers!"
I shook my head, and they snickered. I pressed the security button on the door frame, but of course, they had managed to break that along with everything else.
I felt a sudden sit g on my cheek, and I flinched away. The girl with the sneer was now intensely glaring at me.
" We're talking to you!"
" How rude!"
" Your such a bitch."
" P-please leave," I asked politely. Lily laughed a horrible, obnoxious cackle that left a ringing in my ears.
" Why? Your weird, Donna. You deserve what's coming for you."
" Get out! Leave! And don't come back!" Marcus shouted from behind me. I whipped around, and saw his face purple with rage. The frightened girls scampered off, telling each other how they would have us fired.
" Oh Donna, why didn't you say anything? It's alright now, baby," Marcus whispered in my ear, burying his face in my neck. I shrugged my shoulder.
" Hey, why don't you take the day off?" he asked.
