In those seats are 1,000 people. I take a deep breath and make my way onto the stage, my band following closely behind. Tara steps up to the microphone and everything goes in slow motion as the drummer counts us off. I feel the power in my guitar as I strum it. The electricity flowing through.
The crowd is dancing along.
"Ana!!!"
Avery is cheering me on. The energy is huge. I have spent my life training for this moment. I feel my nerves slowly start to disappear as I slip into the music. Before I knew it, our portion of the show was finished. I take a step off and run to Avery who is waiting with a hug.
"You did great!"
I laugh as he spins me around.
I go home after a celebration dinner and a bad feeling hits me in my stomach. I look at my calendar.
"No this can't be right."
Today is August 23rd. It should've came already. I don't think it's been here for a couple months and I've been so strung out I haven't even noticed!! I say hi to my mama as I run out the door. I need to clear my head. I head to the convenience store and buy the only thing that will tell me if my fears are true. I slip in the door and my mama is standing in the hall.
"Is everything alright? You look a little pale."
"I'm fine mama."
"How was your show?"
"It went great. I'm actually really exhausted. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow."
I slip past her and run up the stairs to the bathroom.
One minute. Two minutes. Three minutes. Four minutes. Five minutes.
I take a deep breath and look at the test.
It's positive.
I'm pregnant.
