Aqua - Chapter Two
A cool blackness touched her skin, and Aster silently floated in a strange dream like space. Was this death? That would be pretty bad if she was dead, she had planned on going to Souplantation tomorrow. A while passed, and still she floated. At least it was comfortable, but an eternity of this would be really boring. Drifting along, Aster tried finding a change in scenery. Maybe it was an illusion, but the surrounding black seemed to go in a slight gradient. Off in the distance, a faint light shone. Well, better than staying here forever. Aster set off, feet lightly skimming the unseen ground and approached the light. It was a distance away, but she felt her body becoming heavier and heavier as she approached it. Sinking down to the ground and forced to walk, her feet took her closer, but about seven feet away from touching the light source, her legs gave out. What the hell? All her joints felt tied to the ground, not responding to her jerking movements.
Even though she got no closer to the light, her vision lightened and Aster groaned. It just had to get worse. She didn't even know that people could faint after they died, but faint she did. Again. In vain, she violently tried jerking her body up and gasped, opening her eyes.
Her eyes screamed in protest, assaulted by a bright light. Aster squinted and blinked away the glare until the light had dimmed down to a comfortable level. The windows were slightly ajar, wooden covers hanging on hinges. A faint wind blew from the open window and Aster shivered, the breeze chilling her skin directly. Wait, what?
Glancing down, Aster gave a slight shriek, grabbing the thin blanket that half covered her and jerking it up. Where the hell were her clothes? She glanced down again at her bare chest, her brain shifting her vision from what used to be there, or more like what used to not be there. She had felt the pain, seen the flesh obliterated into a gaping hole, but only smooth skin greeted her search. Poking her chest, she furrowed her brow. Other than a slight heaviness in her limbs, there was no other abnormality, yet she was supposed to be dead, or even heavily injured. What was going on? Even her surroundings screamed that she was not anywhere near home. From the window could be seen a splash of green and blue, and the walls were made of wooden planks, not plaster and paint. Even the blanket- her only current covering that she clutched ever so tightly- was made of rough cotton, and not synthetic nylon or something similar.
Maybe her mom had been right; all those overprotective measures and CSI shows that had made her paranoid held some worth. A groan escaped from Aster's mouth. She should have listened and had been more careful, but it was too late; no use dwelling on past mistakes. A slight cough caught Aster's attention and she glanced up towards the source.
Yuji was standing in the doorway, leaning slightly on the doorframe and looking in the direction of the floor. Aster clutched the blankets around her tighter and narrowed her eyes at the silent male in front of her. Both uttered no sound, but after what seemed like minutes passed by, Aster broke the silence
"So. I'm just going to cut to the chase. What do you want from me?"
Yuji's eyes flickered briefly, meeting her eyes, then he quickly looked back down.
"I do not know what you speak of."
"Oh really? Yeah, I'm here in your house or god knows where after being kidnapped, and you don't know what I'm talking about. Right." Aster scoffed and Yuji's eyebrows furrowed.
"I did not kidnap you."
"Well, if you prefer to call it child-snatching, or girl baiting, I'm fine with that too."
