Poison and Wine

Chapter 1

{Sierra}

I wake up to the sound of my cat, Celie scratching my door. I grab my phone on my wooden nightstand and check the time. it says 10:18.  I am meeting my older sister, Summer, in Central Park for a picnic at noon. I get up, take a nice, long shower and get ready. I pull out my red and white striped tee, my skinny jeans, green utility jacket and my white converse high tops. I French braid my long, auburn hair, grab my black purse and leave my apartment. when I open the door I am hit by a gust of wind. it is late March here in New York, so it's still a little chilly sometimes. I walk over to the boulangerie on 60th street and pick up Summer and I's sandwiches. I get Summer her favorite- BLT on rye, and I get myself a lettuce, tomato and mozzarella on baguette. I walk to Central Park and I get a text from summer.
I'm at our favorite tree!
I take the short walk to my favorite tree in all of Central Park- a large willow tree- and see summer laid out with her red gingham blanket.
"HEY SUMMER!" I yell when I'm
about 50 feet away.
She gets up off the blanket and I give her a big hug. I haven't seen her since Little Mermaid ended about 2 or 3 months ago. She played her cello in the orchestra pit.
"How've you been?" she asks.
"I've been good. Life is SO uneventful when you're in a show hole!"
"Tell me about it. I keep thinking I have orchestra call at 3pm!"
I chuckle. " I miss the cast. I mean, I went out to lunch with Norm and Seam the other day, but I still miss them!"
"That's rough." she says.
we sit down on the blanket and I pull out our sandwiches. I give summer hers.
"how'd you remember this one's my favorite? we haven't eaten from there in years!"
"Summer, you're my sister. I remember everything!"
We both laugh and eat our lunch. we catch up a bit and we people watch until I hear my phone buzz.
"hello, this is Sierra Boggess. how may I help you?"
"Hi, Sierra, it's Cameron Mackintosh."
I nearly drop my phone. Cameron Mackintosh is one of the most respected producers in the theatre world! and he CALLED ME!
"Oh! um, Hi!"
" I am calling to offer you a job. You see, Jekyll and Hyde is coming to Broadway and the creative team wants you to play Lucy. what do you say?"
"Yes yes yes a million times yes!" I exclaim.
"Great! The director is enthused to start working with you. rehearsals start in 4 days! see you then!"
I press end on the call and squeal.
"What was that all about?" summer asks.
"I'm going to be Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway!"
