I sat, curled up under my mismatched sheets, freezing cold. I held my phone up to my ear, shivering. The phone rang endlessly, or so it seemed. I squirmed around restlessly, waiting for him to answer. Then, as the ringing ended, my heart skipped a beat of hope when an oh so familiar voice picked up.
"Hello? Hallie?" A somewhat muffled, groggy voice answered from the other end. I had forgot about the time difference. I had probably woken him up, but I was so relieved, yet shocked that he had picked up, I didn't care. I was so excited, I forgot to speak. I heard his breath pick up, filled with anxiety.
"Hallie? Are you there?" He asked worriedly. I could tell that he knew that something was up. I nodded, forgetting that he couldn't see me. Then, finding my words, I spoke.
"Y-yeah. I-I'm fine." I barely choked out, stuttering on my words a bit. I sighed, too happy to care about anything. As the silence continued, my thoughts gathered once again, and I remembered why I had called in the first place.
"Um, Niall... I need to talk to you about something..." I said slowly, letting it sink in a little. The other end of the line was dead silent except for his raspy breathing and what sounded like something dropping, and shattering.
"Baby Girl, what is it? Are you okay? What happened?" He started asking, throwing a million questions at me all at once. I gulped, and my heart started racing. My breaths started coming in short bursts, and everything was growing blurry. I realized I was having a panic attack, and tried to steady myself, but it was no use.
"Hallie? Baby?" He questioned, his voice panicked. The symptoms worsened, and I found it hard to breath. I was scared that Niall would turn me down, and that he wouldn't care. Finally, I tried to keep my breathing steady, and it finally happened. After about a minute of this, and Niall throwing questions at me, I was ready to talk.
"Niall, I have been abused." I said, straight to the point, panicking a little. I heard a muffled curse come from him, which was really rare, and I smirked a little.
"Oh my god. Hallie, what happened? Who did it?" He asked, demanding more information.
I started crying a little. "D-Dad did... He h-hurt me." The words struggled free from my mouth. Then, spilled everything, from moms death, to dad's drug and alcohol addiction, his physical and mental abuse toward me, the paparazzi, the cyber bullying, and all of the unwanted attention.
By the end, I was bawling, and my whole face was wet, and my eyes were red. It hurt to breath, and I was shaking a little. Tiny black dots blurred my vision once again. I heard Niall crying on the phone. I had never heard him cry, ever.
"T-That's h-horrible Hallie. I-I am so sorry th-that I haven't b-been there for you B-Baby Girl!" He whimpered into the phone, and it made me cry once again. I hadn't had anyone care about me for a long time, and it felt different to hear it again, a good kind of different.
"Niall... I want you back. I miss you so much. I can't do it anymore. Please! I need you!" I begged, wet, hot tears pouring from my eyes as I curled up on my side in my bed.
Niall sniffled. "Anything for my little sis. Hallie, I'm coming for you. I am going to make this up to you, I promise." He said. And with that, he hung up, leaving me stunned. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He was coming for me. I was going to be rescued.
I had never been this happy before, at least since a few years ago. I jumped up and danced childishly around my room, humming and packing up a few things, and tidying up a little. Then, I turned on my music, and blared it through my tiny portable speaker, and jumped around even more.
My happy thoughts and daydreams quickly ended, interrupted with the crash of a door, and the sound of thundering footsteps. The sound of something shattering sounded from downstairs as I heard footsteps boom throughout the house.
"Hallie! Get your little butt down here, you maggot!" He slurred angrily. I cringed, and then gulped. I stood and slowly made my way to the door, and down the stairs. As I made my way through the dark, I prepared myself for what was to come.
