I run up to him and give him a loving hug as I always do. He even jumped like he usually does and as always, somehow, he knocks me off and yells, "Stop doing that! We don't go together and I don't like you at all!" I smile because I know he's only playing hard to get. I watch him walk across the wide sidewalk towards his next class.

"Janey!"I hear Sam, short for Samantha, call me.

"Why do you run over here so quickly every day?! He obviously doesn't like you! You're so tiring, making me chase you to catch up like that!" I swing my head hard purposely away from her so that my ponytail nearly slaps her.

"He likes me alright! He just doesn't know how to express it to me, so he plays hard-to-get." I say matter-of-factly. Sam chuckles and I give her a mean stare-down. Then she stares back which starts a stare-down contest.

"We better head to class now." Sam said still staring intensely at me. "Yeah." I agree, not giving up on my stern stare. We stand there a few more seconds before we both laugh and run to class just before the bell rings.

Janey is the nickname Sam gave me since my name is "too ritzy sounding and too long" for her. At least, that's what she says. My real name is Elizabeth. Yes, it has nothing to do with Janey, but Sam told me that I just look like a Janey, and I agree. It has a level of... main-characterness that I need in my life. That's why she's my best bud.

"Psssssssst!" Sam basically sprays spit all over my face. "Read this!" She passes a note to me while Mrs. Johnson isn't looking this way. I wipe my face and open the small piece of paper to see:

Hey BFF!

I have to tell you something that
might interest you! X)

PS: When you hear it, you are going to explode!

BFF for Life, Sam

I look up at her with one eyebrow up to show her my confusion. She could have just texted me this. Also, what is the "PS:" thing all about? Is it code for something? I'm pretty proud about my in-depth knowledge of text-speak, but this one was new. I looked up to see if she could give me any clues to what she was going to say. Then Sam mouths the words, "EENAAAHH BOW TEEESHHH AWW EEEENUH NUN NUN!" Actually, this may be wrong. No, in fact, I know it is wrong because I'm not good with understanding people when they mouth words. I shrug and she signals that she'll tell me after class.

I meet her outside the door and she smiles, not the nice, "I love you!" smile or the "You're so silly!" smile. No, this one said, "You're going to hate this when I tell you this!" kind of smile, which is contradicting emotions but she's evil sometimes. What can I say?

"What is so great that you have to tell me?" I ask impatiently. She starts walking towards the school exit and I follow. "Janey, don't go all crazy or nothing, but I saw it with my own eyes. Shawn likes the 'Quiet Girl'." I stop walking. I look left and right to see if this so-called-girl was nearby so that when we start talking about her, it is actually behind her back. Then without caring if I hit Sam or not, I swing my head so quickly to face away from her, that I slap her hard with my ponytail. Then I realize I am actually wearing a lot of beads in my hair today and that I probably hurt her. Of course, I don't really think about it too hard since the news she told me was much more painful.

"What do you mean?! How do you know if it's true?! Did he..." I take a deep breath before I finish, "kiss her...?" I wanted to go on with how ridiculous it was that my soon-to-be-boyfriend-soon-to-be-husband could like someone else, but the sheer thought was making me tear up so bad snot started drooling out of my nose.
