I look outside my warped window pane, a feminine ghost stands there staring up into the night, I can't make out her features only her tanned skin and dark auburn hair, that stands out like the sun in the night. She is a daughter of the day... I stare at her staring up at the sky, she is astounding, her blue dress ruffle slightly in the wind showing me the tops of her ankle boots. I stare at her... she is looking at the stars in wonder, it is amazing to see her gazing at something that I see every night... I continue to stare at her her, I can't see her face only her body~beautiful~ She seems so happy ad enticed, I need words to describe the wonder pasted onto her face, "Life begins at night," I whisper into the pane careful not to wake up my~still sleeping~ father, who would surely turn her in. I continue to stare... then the sirens start.
She has been spotted...
I run down the stairs.
She has been spotted...
I make it to the door.
She has been spotted...
I grip the door handle in my sweaty palm.
She has been spotted...
I rip open the door and see her frozen on the sidewalk. Her back is turned towards me, she is paralyzed staring up in the sky.
"Pssst" I whisper, she whips her head around, I can't make out her features...
The sirens get louder... "come here" Without a second thought she bolts from her iced position and into my house. I shut the door tightly just as the sirens go past my door. I hold my finger to my lips; she must see me because she doesn't make a noise as we walk up the steps. We go into my room as Father opens up his door, "Jourdan?" he asks looking at my open door. I shoo her inside and turn to face Father. His pinstripe pajamas help hide himself into the night, unlike myself he has raven hair and eyes that blend right into his pupils; making his pale skin shine out bright, just like a clothes ghost.
"Yes, Father?"
"What were those sirens for?"
"I believe that a major rule was broken, judging by the urgency of the horns,"
"I wonder what one,"
"You have me..."
"Well then, I'll see you downstairs for breakfast,"
"Very well then," I turn around and walk into my room, she is sitting on my bed stroking the ashy sheets. "Are you okay?"
"I'm not really sure," she murmurs into her hair. I walk over and sink down into my worn mattress next to her oddly warm body. I don't move just sit there and watch her hand draw circles in the fine layer of ash covering the blankets.
"Do you want to sleep here until dawn?"
"That would be much loved, thank you"
"It's no problem, but may I please know your name, my fair daughter of the sun?"
"Annemarie Carroll Tayer, may I know your name my rescuer of the son of night?"
"Jourdan Taylor Bott, Mam" She smiles a small smile at that as she looks up into my dull green eyes, her blue orbs are sparked with energy. A liveliness that I have never seen before, only read about. "I would love to stay and learn more about you, Annemarie Carroll Tayer, but I must get going before Father starts to wonder what has kept me up here for so long,"
"Same here, Jourdan Taylor Bott, but I must rest so I can be well rested for tomorrow..." she states droning off into oblivion.
"Sleep well, Annemarie," I whisper and kiss her forehead, I don't know what makes me feel that way. It just feels right. With a sigh I begin to walk downstairs to the kitchen where Father has prepared our eggs for breakfast.
