3rd person pov.
Two kids and their parents are in their living room. The older kid is a 7-year-old boy named Carl who is jumping around the room. He has a lean figure with brown hair and striking hazel eyes. His sister is a 5-year-old girl who goes by the name of Misty. She looks almost exactly like her brother except for her hair is longer and she is shorter. She is sulking silently in the corner
"Mom Dad I got my black belt today! The coach says if I pass the test I can be the youngest karate teacher ever!" Carl almost yells, still jumping around the room.
"That is amazing! I'm so proud of you little diamond!" Mom replies, hugging Carl affectionately.
"What about you Misty? Did you finally do something good in your life?" Dad questions sarcastically, already knowing the answer.
Misty mumbles, her lips barely moving, "No... I already told you that I don't want to learn karate. I want to be an actor.
Dad turns red before yelling in Misty's face, "WHAT?! WE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE! YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE FAMILY TRADITION YOU ARE SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT GO TO YOUR ROOM!" causing Misty to run upstairs crying her eyes out.
"Ta ta mistake!" Carl teases, causing his parents to laugh.
Mom gives Carl a pat on the head before explaining, "Carl go clean up I'm going to make you a cake ok?"
"Cool!" Carl yells, running to his room.
The parents go to the kitchen and Dad whispers, "I wish we changed her name from Hope to Mistake instead of Misty because that is what she is. Misty only spells half of mistake."
"I know right," Mom replies before adding," but for now go give Carl some more pocket money and I'll make Carl his cake and Mistake, sorry I mean Misty, is not getting dinner. I don't even remember the last time she even had dinner."
"Right, I'll call Carl in a few minutes," Dad responds, helping Mom with the oven," he is our little diamond after all."
--- LINE BREAK ---
The Next Day...Carl and Misty are walking home when Misty speaks up," When can I tell them the truth?"
"The fact that my 5-year-old sister can beat me in karate? Like never!"
"You know if you didn't have that video of me breaking they lamp I would tell them the truth."
"You blamed me for breaking the lamp so I am better than you at karate. Simple."
"They already forgave you!" Misty yells, fuming. By now they have reached the door.
"So what. Remember, you want to be an actor," Carl replies, opening the door. They head to the living room then freeze in their tracks. In the middle of the room stood a police officer. "Where's my mom and dad?" Carl questions.
"I'm sorry to inform you but your parents died in a car crash,"The police officer states, glancing up from his notepad.
"WHAT! NO! YOU'RE LYING!" Carl wails, tears springing to his eyes.
"I'm terribly sorry, but you have to go to the orphanage," the police officer informs, guiding the kids out the door. Carl is crying his eyes out while Misty is in shock, not happy, but not particularly sad either. This was the start of a new life, and neither kid knew what to think.
