Chapter Three

If it was possible, he was smitten—again. Her words struck him like an arrow, Cupid’s arrow to be exact, and he found himself, Cory Daniels, the most popular guy in school, speechless. If the boys saw me now, he thought, they’d be laughing. Cory, speechless? And the cause being a complete outcast to be exact? He needed to know this girl. By a reflex, he reached out and grabbed her elbow, and spun her around. When his eyes met hers, he saw that her hazel eyes were wide, but full of fierceness. He liked that.

“Well, I should be the one sorry, Lylah,” he liked how her eyes flashed when he said her name, “that I haven’t found an opportunity like this to get to know a complete artwork like you. But now, that have this opportunity, I dare say, I’m not going to let it slip. So whether you like it or not, Wristband Girl, you’re stuck with me.”

When he felt that she wasn’t going to run away, he released his grip, and let his hands cross over his chest, somewhat proud of himself. He didn’t know where those words came from, but he liked the effect it was having on her. He watched her take in what he said, with her breathing all over the place, he could tell that she was trying to make it seem normal, but it was still pretty obvious. He watched in amusement as she debated with herself in her head. She was cute doing it. Her head was scrunched up, and her eyes, which he was slowly starting to grow a liking to, were scrutinizing him, trying to see if he had any malicious intentions. Sorry, Wristband Girl, I’ve got none.

Finally, she sighed, “Fine. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to be nice to you. Besides, we wouldn’t want anyone to see us. Don’t to ruin your reputation,” she waved her hand in the air in a dismissive manner, rolling her eyes before turning again and walking away.

This time, he jogged up to her, before relaxing to an even stride beside her, “We don’t need to worry about my reputation, you should know that I’d drop it all for you,” he turned to give her a wink, earning him another eye roll, but he could see her cheeks redden.

“You like rolling your eyes a lot, don’t you?” when she didn’t answer, he continued, “So, where are we headed, anyway, Wristband Girl? Your family’s that way,” he cocked his head to the direction they were walking away from, from the church. He then remembered his own family, but they must’ve figured that he was going out anyway. Besides, he wanted to stay with this girl.

“Don’t call me that,” she snapped. He liked getting her annoyed—it was very entertaining to watch. She sighed, and continued, “I’m going to the pizza place by the music store, and I don’t know where you’re going.”

“The pizza place it is!” he fist pumped the air. She rolled her eyes again, and pushed her glasses back up the bridge of her nose. He liked that. “Your glasses are cute,” he remarked, “Should I call you Wristband Girl or Glasses Girl? I like them both. What do you think?”

She narrowed her eyes at him, “I think you should put a sack in it, Daniels, before I start calling you Clodhopper Cory.”

What does that even mean? He liked this girl more every second. He liked how she said his name.

“Fine, I’ll just alternate between the two,” he pouted. They had finally reached the pizza shop. They stood in front of it for a while, before he turned and grinned at her.

“So, Lylah, is this considered our first date?”
