Long time ago in West Java, there lived a boy who liked to hunt and spent a lot of time in the forest. His name was Sangkuriang, he was the son of Dayang Sumbi – one of the most beautiful woman in West Java. One day, Dayang Sumbi who was very upset hit him on the head with a spoon because he killed a dog which named Tumang – the dog was apparently a god and his biological father. Sangkuriang didn’t care, He was very furious so then he left his house and decided to become a wanderer.
However... after what Dayang Sumbi did to her son, she regretted it and every night she prayed and asked God that one day she could meet her son again. God answered her prays and gave her an eternity beauty.
After a very long time Sangkuriang returned back to his hometown and noticed that his beautiful hometown had changed a lot. He then fell in love a beautiful woman which was his own mother, the sparks happened between them and finally he purposed Dayang Sumbi and they were planned to get married soon.
One day, when Sangkuriang visited Dayang Sumbi at home, she accidentally saw Sangkuriang's scars on his head; she shocked and realized that the man she was going to marry was his own son! She was worried, she wanted to tell Sangkuriang that she was his mother and they couldn’t marry. When Dayang Sumbi told Sangkuriang that she was his mother and asked Sangkuriang to cancel their marriage, Sangkuriang insisted to marry her. Dayang Sumbi tried so hard to reject Sangkuriang’s wish until then she found a way to make him stopped, as condition to marry her - she asked Sangkuriang to dam up Citarum River and to make her a big boat so she could cross the river, without doubt he accepted the conditions.
He must complete the requirements before the dawn, Dayang Sumbi sneaked to see how far his son has gone and she was shocked that he nearly finished all her requirements! Dayang Sumbi asked all her neighbours to help her to spread a long red silk cloth in the East-side of the town, Sangkuriang who saw the red light thought that it’s already dawn, he was very angry.... Dayang Sumbi came close to him “You couldn’t finish my conditions, son. Now, you can’t marry me. But there’s something I want to tell you.” Uttered Dayang Sumbi, her son seemed very unsettled “The dog that you’ve killed, it was your father.” Dayang Sumbi admitted “I know.” Replied Sangkuriang annoyed.
“You knew about that?!” she raised her tone as she was ready to explode “YES! And that’s why I killed him!! Because that dog was my father!!!” Sangkuriang yelled “And that’s also the reason why I insisted to marry you, because, if that ugly dog could marry you, how couldn’t I? That ugly dog was my father! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! I’m the son of the dog! My father was a dog! Am I a dog?? MY FATHER WAS A DOG!!!”
