Dinner was usually one of the nicest moments of the day -everyone would be together, the meals were usually quite good and everyone talked about there day- but today, Tulip was the only one talking. Carly just sat there, staring at her plate and stirring around her soup, dreading the conversation yet to come.
Normally dinner would be much earlier but since the whole detention thing had never happened before, Zia and Arron allowed Tulip to stay up to eat dinner with everyone, and Tulip was loving it.
Tulip was Carly's younger sister, and was an absolute pain. She had blond hair that she had dyed a bright pink so as to "match her name", ignoring her parents as they offered many other tulip colors, and sticking with the brightest, most painful to look at pink.
Tulip also had beautiful blue eyes and looked more like her elegant mom, verses Carly, who looked more like her dad, who was handsome, but as a girl, not exactly what you want to look like.
Tulip was practically the exact opposite of Carly, she was an extrovert, was popular with everyone, and despised reading. Carly couldn't believe that someone like Tulip, could be related to her.
Carly watched quietly as Tulip got all of her parent's attention, -not that it was very unusual- and was slowly picking at her food when Tulip turned around and glanced at Carly. Grinning as she saw Carly's face, she asked smuggly "Is anything wrong Carly, you look kind of down.."
When Carly didn't answer her smile grew, "Is it because of detention? I've never been in detention, but I'm sure it wasn't that bad." Smirking she watched to see what Carly's reaction was going to be. Carly did nothing.
Annoyed that she hadn't gotten a good reaction from Carly, Tulip tryed again. "Mom, is Carly-" Zia looked at her daughter and shook her head quietly, a silent warning, but Tulip was determined to continue. "Mom, is Carly going to be okay? I've never been in detention so I wouldn't know, but Carly is going to be alright, right?"
Annoyed Zia glanced at her daughter, "Sweetheart, it's very sweet that you care about your sister and she'll be fine, but right now I think we've all eaten enough, and it's long past your bedtime."
Glaring, Tulip sighed and slowly started to trudge towards the stairs but was interrupted by Zia coughing loudely and pointedly. Tulip turned around and sighed, Zia was looking pointedly at Tulip's plate. Giving an exagerated sigh and a massive eye roll, Tulip entered the room, grabbed her plate, while giving Carly a huge glare before stomping out. Zia watched her, amusement clear in her eyes.
Zia turned back to Carly, glancing down at Carly's plate she frowned. "Honey, you barely ate."
"I'm not hungry".
Sighing, Zia glanced at the plates and softly said, "We can deal with those later. Right now, we need to talk."
Carly glanced at her mother, she too sighed and sat up in her seat, bracing herself. Surprisingly enough, her mother and father both looked more dissappointed than angry. That made Carly feel even worse. Well played mom, dad, well played.
Zia glanced at her husband before starting to speak, choosing her words carefully, "Honey, what happened? We heard that you were sent to the principles office because of some make-believe spider, is that true?"
Not daring to meet her mother's eyes she just stared at the table, before slowly nodding.
Suddenly everyone turned to the door, when they heard a small bumping noise and a small voice whisper "ouch!". Glaring, Zia stood up, excusing herself, and walked to the door, exited the room. Carly could hear a muffled conversation through the wall, and could feel her face heat up when she heard her name mentioned a few times.
