I was sitting on my couch, seeing if there was anything good on TV. There was nothing good on the cartoons channel so I went to the movie channel. I saw a lot of movies that i'll normally watch but I just didn't feel like it. I turned the TV off and groaned in frustration. Nothing happens around here anymore. I just fight Eggman everyday in the same way. I laid my head back and sighed. The only thing that I actually enjoy more then anything is running. I sat there for a few more minutes, thinking if I should run or check on my kids. Just then, I get a notification on my phone. That's strange, I don't remember ever putting a notification on my phone. At least, I think so. I pick up my phone and saw the notification when I turned on my phone. 'Today is Shadow's birthday' it said. My eyes widened and I shot off the couch like a lightning bolt. Oh crap, today is Shadow's birthday and I completely forgot!

I ran up to my room and grabbed the present that I specifically made for Shadow. I was extremely nervous. I didn't know how he'll react to me bringing him a present. He'll either shut the door in my face, as usual, or he'll actually let me in. The latter thought would never happen in a million years. I stood there in my room, doubting my plan that I made a few months back. A strand of sweat rolled down my face and onto my chin. It hit the floor, making the smallest sound. Then my door was wide open, followed by a terrified Thom. Six of my kids are a huge group of twins. The seventh one is 18 and the oldest. "Dad, Alannah's trying to kill me!" he shouted, which made my ears ring. I sighed and chuckled under my breath. "Alannah, stop trying to kill your siblings" I shouted down the stairs. Alannah ran up the stairs and had daggers in her eyes. "But Dad-"" Look, I need all of you to behave while i'm gone" I interrupted, ignoring the situation. The daggers in Alannah's eyes disappeared. Instead, they were replaced by confusion and suspicion. Her mouth opened to question me, but then she closed them. "Fine." she growled. Relief swept over me in a huge wave. At least I don't have to sit here and talk to Alannah for an hour. She's such a troublemaker.

I ran down my stairs and out the door in a flash. I ran to Shadow's house, which was a man made cabin in the heart of the forest. I slowed down to a jog so that I could enjoy the scenery. I smelled the scent of the forest but it was faint. It was a nice smell but I was disappointed. It seems like my werehog senses are kicking in again. I hated it when it happens. I followed a worn down path till I came upon a well built, two story cabin. I hid the present behind my back, in case if Shadow does actually let me in. I slowed to a walk and came up to his door. Each step felt like a stone then a boulder. It was getting hard to just lift my feet up. I finally reached his door and my heart was pounding. I've never felt this nervous in my entire life. Every single time that I came up to Shadow, it was with unstoppable confidence but now, it feels like i'm about to fall with the strange feeling in my legs, arms, and chest. I lift my hand up to do a knock but it stopped midway. Do I really want to do this? Doubt filled my mind again and I nearly backed away from the door. No! Sonic the Hedgehog is not a coward! The doubt rinsed away and was replaced with confidence. I raised my hand and knocked on the door, still keeping the present behind my back. Shadow will probably think this suspicious of me when I give him his birthday present. I can still be nice to my rival, can't I? I stood, waiting for probably ten minutes when I heard footsteps coming from inside. My heart started to pound through my chest like hammer and nails. I kept on shifting my feet, slightly regretting my decision. The footsteps stopped at the door and I heard the door being unlocked.

The door swung open to reveal a black and red hedgehog, clearly not surprised but disappointed to see me. "What do you want, faker?" he questioned, looking at me head to toe. I just stood there staring at him. I tried to say something but nothing came out. My mind was rolling with different emotions, making me overwhelmed. Holy crap. I actually don't know what to say! Sweat rolled down my face. What am I supposed to do? Shadow sighed and started to close the door. I snapped back to normal and stopped the door. "Wait, I need to give you something" I blurted out. Shadow turned his head and stared at me like I just did something insane. He slowly opened the door to it's full extent and he was sweating. I didn't notice that. "What is it that you really need to give to me?" he questioned. I gulped and folded my ears back. I looked to my left and felt heat come to my muzzle. I took my hand out from behind my back and showed him his present. Shadow looked at it in suspicion. I wouldn't blame him. He slowly reached forward and grabbed it."You can open it now, if you want" I said, tapping my right foot. Why do I feel so nervous all of a sudden? I heard crickets and frogs now instead of the steady paw steps of critters. It must be dusk. I looked up and Shadow was stilling staring at the box."I should get back home to my-". A blood curdling howl stopped my sentence. The howl sounded nothing like a wolf. I saw Shadow's ears perk up in alert."Get inside" he growled. I followed as he said and came inside his house. I've came here plenty of times but never before have I ever been in Shadow's house nor been here at dusk. Shadow closed and locked his door, then he went to his windows and drew the curtains close. What ever that thing was that created that howl, Shadow surely knew about it."We need to get upstairs" he said."But why?" I questioned."We just need to". Just then, a screeching sound came across the windows.
