“A guy and a girl can be just friends, but at one point or another, they will fall for each other...Maybe temporarily, maybe at the wrong time, maybe too late, or maybe forever” -- Dave Matthews Band.

“If I’m going to survive this day, I’m going to need lots and lots of caffeine.” Autumn stated, holding her head in her hands.

“Drink this.” Scarlett said, handing her a cup of coffee.

They were seated in the kitchen dressed and ready to go to work. There was one problem though. Autumn had the worst hangover she had ever experienced, which isn’t saying much since she rarely got drunk.

“How much did you drink anyway?” Scarlett questioned as she watched her roommate sipping on the hot coffee.

“I don’t know.” Autumn said.

“You don’t know or you don’t remember?”

“I remember what happened last night. I remember having fun. I remember being incredibly lame.”

Scarlett smiled. “I wish I could’ve seen that.”

Autumn scoffed. “You shouldn’t. Trust me, I was pretty annoying.”

Scarlett looked at her watch. “We should leave. Drink up!” She said.

Autumn groaned and got up. “It’s going to be a long day!”

As they were walking out to the car, Autumn suddenly stopped and cursed under breath.

“What is it?” Scarlett questioned.

“I think Nathan had called me yesterday. I was too boozed up to remember what he had called about. I should call Zayn and ask.”

“How would Zayn know?” Scarlett said, as they resumed walking and got into the car.

“I might have forced him to speak on the phone.” Autumn said, sheepishly.

Scarlett laughed. “You should most definitely call him! Do it now! I don’t want to miss this!”

Autumn chuckled and dialled the number.

“Hello?” Zayn answered after a few rings.

“Hey.” Autumn greeted.

“I see you’re sober now.”

“Yeah. Sorry about last night.” Autumn apologised.

“No worries. It was fun.” He admitted. Then he added, “Do you remember everything that happened?”

“I think so.”

Zayn didn’t answer for a while.

“You there?” Autumn asked.

“Yes.” He replied, he then added “What’s the last thing you remember though?”

“Umm…I guess, walking back from the beach. I’m assuming I fell asleep in the car. Why do you ask?”

“Uh--no reason.” He said, quickly.

“Okay….” Autumn said, unsure. “Oh, god! Did I do something horrible after that?” she asked, worried.

“No.” he said bluntly.

She decided to quit stalling and get to the point. She felt that Zayn was not in a mood to speak, since he was being really weird.

“Listen, what exactly did you and Nathan talk about?”

“Oh, yeah, that.’ Zayn gave a pause, remembering the phone conversation. “He wanted some help with the fundraiser. I told him I’d ask you to give him a call when you’re sober.”
