In the midst of Amberlina's adolescence, she grew to despise the similarity and constant-ness of the kingdom. She wanted to stand out. When she associated herself with her other royal peers, she did not enjoy discussing the dazzling imported silk fabric or the talk about arranged marriages. Amberlina was unique on the inside but looked the same on the outside.

Amberlina was told ever since she was a child that it was a prized possession to have long hair, peasants may not wear their hair long or it should be tied back. The hair was considered to be a symbol of honor and to be highborn. It had always been that way her mother says. Amberlina had straight, platinum blonde hair which was long enough to go up to her ankles. But she hated every strand.

The queen prayed and prayed for days for her child to be a girl but was told that it will be male. The entire kingdom, of course, was kept up to date with every bit of information before the child's arrival. But, on August 23, when the air was warm and the moon gleamed as bright as ever, the queen, gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Amberlina. It was shocking to the public and it might be the most abnormal thing that has ever happened in the kingdom. Some may even go as far as to say that it was a miracle.

Daughter of King and Queen Avian and heir to the throne, there is much pressure on her overall appearance and actions. Expectations are to be met and rules are not to be broken. Up until now she had to put on her best face, her best replication of her mother, just like she had been taught her whole life. She'd learned that the King and Queen were especially concerned in the area of the royal family's reputation. But she holds different morals and ideas but she went with it because she had too.

However, this was not always the case. Numerous shouts were traded between the Queen and the Princess constantly. The King would have to break it up by force, sending Amberlina to her room, the highest point up in which the castle reaches. Their arguments made up of mostly of how much Amberlina resisted acting like someone she isn't and the Queen couldn't believe her abnormal personality towards her duties and her upcoming reign.

"Now, now, Amberlina, in a few short years you will be Queen. You will thrive in ruling our kingdom, I know you will," The Queen said determined while brushing Amberlina's golden locks.

"You will fulfill your commitments and you will satisfy your people." She went on. Amberlina wasn't listening. Her ears blocked by the voice in her head reading her favorite novel, Sliced Open. It was about a female assassin who was hired by the king himself to be his own executor. She had already read this book and she would read this book every night even if it was just a page. It was in her most desperate interest knowing how to fight in battle, like how the knights of the kingdom would. Most importantly she wanted to know how to defend herself.

Amberlina didn't want to be like everyone else, she wanted change in herself and in the kingdom.

The night before her coronation she went back and forth with her thoughts and walked back and forth about what is about to come. She thought of changing her appearance in front of everyone and she planned ahead with no intention of approval from her parents.

She finally came to a conclusion, but she had to keep quiet. Slowly, she opened her door and peeked for guards. When she finds that there is no one, she quickly mapped out the path to the kitchen from her room in her head. Barefooted, she quivered when her feet transitioned from the cloud-like carpet to the cold sand-colored marble floor. Amberlina took a small but sharp knife from the kitchen knife stand in preparation for tomorrow.

*Coronation Day*

Amberlina was dressed in gold, from head to toe. Her hair was done up and twisted, and her dress bouncy and frilly. The gold jewelry rested in her pale skin and it reflected against the light with every movement. She wasn't nervous at all, she replayed the situation over and over again last night. While she was being readied, she recited her "change" speech in her head, reminiscing every single word.
