I slouched down on my lumpy aeroplane seat. Great. 12 and a half hours to get to Seattle on this stupid lumpy plane seat. Lucky me. I shift about, accidentally knocking the fat, bald man sitting next to me. "Oi watch it," he glares at me, before continuing to read his uninteresting fishing magazine. Who even likes those? I pull my phone out of my pocket and flick through old pictures of May. She's in quarantine at the minute, over in Seattle. I switch off my phone and pull out my dog eared copy of "Chosen By A Horse" and begin to read it again from the beginning.
"Coffee sir? Tea sir? Coffee ma'am? Ma'am?" I open my eyes and see a kind looking lady looking at me expectantly with a jug of tea in one hand and coffee in the other.
"Tea please," I nod. I take the tea out of her hands and place it on the little fold up table in front of me. Wow, I was asleep for 4 and a half hours. 8 hours to go. I shimee back down to a comfortable position in my seat and fall asleep again.
I'm woken up by the sudden jolt that sends my head flying forwards. Jeez, I was asleep for 8 hours? I fold my little table back up, noticing the tea is no longer on it. Someone must be thrown it away. I bend down and pull my suitcase from under the lumpy seat just as the plane wheels meet the ground. I sit up and sling my handbag over my shoulder, waiting for the signal to remove my seatbelt.
"Thankyou for flying with America Air today. We hope you enjoyed your trip and we will see you soon." I stand up and brush off my jeans and walk out into the aisle of the plane. I walk all the way to the bottom of the plain and jump down the steps. I'm in Seattle. A man in a high-viz jacket is directing all the passengers to a door, which leads into the airport. I walk in , wheeling my little suitcase and walk over to the carousel thing, that's now rotating suitcases. I spot my two, large black ones and lift them from the carousel. I lift my little suitcase onto one of the bigger ones handles and walk out of the airport. I signal to a taxi to stop, then I open the boot of the yellow car, and chuck my suitcases in. I get in the Passenger seat, next to a bored looking man.
"Where to lil lady," he drones in a thick American accent.
"Meon Brook Academy," I reply. He stifles a laugh, then looks stern. "You do know how much that is going to cost from here don't you? Gosh, that places is hours away!"
"Yes. I do know where it is and could you take me there now or I'll find another cab." I reply.
I know I sound rude but I don't care, I don't want to be treated like an infant. "Got an attitude have we now girly?" He smirks.
"I'm not a little girl," I reply coldly.
"If you say so youngen," he replies tartly. I've had enough at this point, so I get out of the can and slam the door. I walk round to the back and open the boot. I begin to pull out my suitcases, then the man in the cab floors it and i fall on top of my suitcases in the middle of the road. Great. Just great. I stand up and dust my self off, before picking up my abandoned suitcases. I walk away to the curb before hearing "hey you! Girl with the long brown hair!" I turn around and see a middle aged man, with a kind, looking face.
"Going somewhere?" He jokes.
"Well, I was," I reply
"Jump in," he says kindly
"Thankyou," I say gratefully, and jump in the cab with my suitcases.
"Where to?" He asks
"Meon Brook Academy" I say hastily
"Alright then," he says, before hitting the gas pedal and speeding off.3 hours later, I arrive at Meon Brook Academy. Wow. Directly infront of the cab are long strips
Of lush green grass, leading up to a tall brick building, surrounded by gravel.
"Thankyou so much," I say to the driver.
"That's alright, now that cab ride was not cheap" he continues. I bite my lip, ready to hear the cost. "However, because of the way one of my co workers treated you, it's free of charge. Have a nice day love" then he speeds off again, leaving me standing in the gravel with 3 suitcases. I start approaching the main building, before I hear a shout. "Oi!! Juniors aren't allowed in there out of school times!" I turn round and see a tall, stony faced boy glaring down at me.
"Well how could I know?" I glare back and March off. Behind the main building, I see a smaller one with "Reception" written along the top. That way then... I approach it, and arrive to be standing in front of a grey haired woman behind a desk.
"Yes?" She asks boredly.
"I'm Imogen. Imogen Halloway."
"Oh yeh, Imogen. Horses are arriving tomorrow 8 am. There's a meeting tonight for new boarders in the green room at 7:30pm
Don't miss it. You're in room 108 in Badminton house. Here's your key." She hands me a key, and I begin to walk to a big blue painted building. I walk in and go up the stairs, to try and find room 108. I unlock the big oak door, and see a huge Window. On either side of the window is two single beds, each with a little nightstand next to it. I notice the left bed has some clothes on it, so I go for the right. I dump my handbag on it and fall back on the soft quilts.
"Hi," I hear. I sit up and see that I'm facing a tall girl with jet black hair and brown eyes.
"Hi.."
"I'm Amber. Who are you," she asks
"Imogen." I reply.
"Umm cool I guess. Hey is that a horse?" She asks, seeing a picture of May flash up.
"No it's a pig." I reply sarcastically.
"Oh ha ha very funny. So I'm guessing you ride then" she asks .
"Yes I do" I reply
"Cool so do i. I have a black gelding called Jet. He's pretty cool."
"I have a black mare called May I Have this Dance. I either call her Danny or May usually."
"Nice. Jets arriving tomorrow,"
"So is May"
"Cool, can't wait to meet her. See you later, I'm going to get lunch." Amber strolls out the door and slams it behind her. I open up my suitcase and pull out my bedding.
Half and hour later, the right side of the room looks really nice. There's a chevron mint green and white duvet on the bed with some little pillows, a picture frame above the bed with a photo of Elsie and a mint green lamp beside the bed. There's a painting of May on the length of the wall, with a string of fairy lights above it. I shove my suitcases under my bed and slam the last overflowing drawer shut. Finally, some sleep.I wake up to feel a swift hit to my shoulder.
It's Amber. "Meeting in the green room sleeping beauty." She says. I get up and pull the covers back, making the bed look neat.
I strip off my old clothes and pull on some sweat pants and a hoodie, before throwing my hair up in a bun. I pull on my socks and walk downstairs, out of the house.-------------------------------------------
