Ghost was already awake when he heard the knocks at his door. He hadn't been able to get any more sleep since his last nightmare-one where Toast found out about his feelings and left him in disgust.
He heard Toast's voice through the door, quietly asking if he was still up. Ghost hesitated, but got up from his bed and walked to the door to unlock it, quickly moving back to his bed and hiding himself under the covers like a child, only his eyes peeking out to see Toast.
Toast opened the door, looking in at him and sighing. He opened the door the rest of the way, it's creaking sounding even louder in the awkward silence between them. Toast walked towards the edge of Ghost's bed, and sat down next to him, frowning as he looked over at him.
"I'm sorry, sir.." Toast mumbled. "I.. I didn't mean to shout and be angry, I really didn't, but..." He took a deep breath, pulling his legs up so he could turn to face Ghost better. "I care about you very much, s-Ghost. I don't know what I would ever do if something actually happened to you, and it made me scared. Terrified, actually."
He stared at the ground, the both of them sitting in silence for a moment before Toast once again broke it. "I.. Hope that you'll forgive me. I'm sorry."
That was all it took for Ghost to throw the blanket away from him, wrapping his arms tightly around Toast's neck and clutching onto the back of his shirt as his tears began again. He let out a sob, muffled as his face was hidden in Toast's shoulder.
Toast threw his arms back around Ghost, returning the hug and kissing the top of Ghost's head. "I'm so sorry, sir.. I.."
"It's okay, Johnny." Ghost managed to get out through choked sobs. "Obviously I forgive you for that, I just-it scared me so much.."
Toast pulled Ghost closer at that, lying down with him and still holding him tightly in his arms, Ghost clutching onto his shirt still while he continued to cry.
Toast whispered to Ghost as he cried, telling him how much he cared about him, and how it was all okay now, that he was safe right here with him.
As Ghost listened to everything he said, he could only think about one thing.
No matter what Toast might have told him when he was drunk, no matter how much he cares for Ghost, it would never be in the same way that Ghost loved him. Ghost knew this, and he only cried even more, pulling him as close as he possibly could.
At least for this moment, he could be safe in Toast's arms.
As he finally drifted to sleep, crying himself out until he was exhausted, one final thought crossed his mind.
Lying here with Toast, no matter if he returned his feelings or not, Ghost knew that he could die in these arms.
I could die in his arms... And I would be happy.
This kind of sounds like it could be the end of the book doesn't it...
Well worry not, because as I said this is only the very beginning of bigger things to come. I wouldn't end this on such a sad note! .. At least not before they're together. Pfft
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter even though it's been short. Yay two updates in one day be proud of me. Are you proud? N..no? Okay. That's cool. ... *goes and sits in the corner and pouts*
