"They aren't big enough", a tall pretty blonde with a sexy short cut bluntly stated as she stuffed more tissues down my bra.

"Jay", I exclaimed "if you put any more padding in my bra my shirts going to bust."

"Oh hush" she whimpered stuffing in one last handful of tissues. "It's not my fault you were born with small tits" she teased. I stuck my tongue out at her. "Do you want to pass for 21 or not?"

"Yah 21, not a middle-aged breast plant Botox gone wrong wannabe!" I looked into Jay's glittered mirror with nail polish stains all over it. In the mirror I had fake eyelashes with 5 pounds of mascara, bright crimson red lips, and enough contour to make my cheeks look like Death Valley.

"Are you even sure about this makeup? It's a bit over kill" I mumbled. Even that was an understatement.

"Meri please trust me when I say you look fine! You want to be practically unrecognizable just in case we bump into any of our creep teachers. I have been to Jade's Palace plenty of times and I promise my tactics have an almost 100 percent success rate!"

"Almost? That little percent of doubt might as well be me and "poof" good bye Merida Cockadick!"

Jay began to bust up in laughter "Please say your last name one more time!"
"Haha no. I already get enough ridicule from Mr. Jenson's homeroom class when he always draws out my name in a ratchet British accent when he takes attendance."

When she finished laughing she wiped a tear away and sat up on her twin mattress we were sitting on. "Mer he probably just does that to get himself off, he thinks you're hot".

"Oh my gosh you are so disgusting Jay!" I chucked a pillow into her perfect face. She chucked it back and pushed me onto the bed and sat on my stomach then grabbed my wrists.

"What'd you say I was huh?" she laughed through gritted teeth. I tried to kick her off but I was no match for her manish muscles.

"Get off of me you chunk!" I squealed. She finally got off and laid next to me in the bed. After we had settled laughing I turned towards her with a sly grin. "SO you really think he thinks I'm hot?" Jay looked at me and couldn't help but smile.

"Oh shut up you pookie butt!" she screamed as we started to hit each other with pillows again.
All of a sudden we heard the sound of jingling keys towards the front of Jay's trailer house.

"Umm I thought your dad was at the bar tonight?"

"Yah I thought so too" Jay frowned. We both looked at each other.

"Helloooo! Jay! Justin?! Mary! Where are you Mary the doors jammed! Open the door up!"

"Oh my gosh he sounds hammered" Jay bent down and peeked through the small hole in her room her dad had kindly marked one of the many times he had come home drunk. "I should probably open it up for him." she got up and walked towards the door.
I quickly grabbed her arm.

"Jay stop you know what he's capable of when he's like this."

"JAYYYY!!!" He screamed even louder.

"That's exactly why I need to open the door." she stopped and peered at me with those serious eyes she rarely showed anyone. "Who knows what he'll do to himself, what he'll do to others if he's left outside alone? Remember what happened to Justin?" She yanked her hand away and marched towards the door.

I held my breath. I do remember Justin, how could I forget? It was the first time spent the night at her house. I was woken up in the twin mattress we had been sharing by her and her dad screaming at each other in the hall. The door was open and I saw her dad was yelling about how disrespectful of a daughter she was and that she needed to respect him.
In return she spit back some choice language and how crappy of a father he was and how she didn't have to listen to him. He then started to laugh a terrible, drunk, menacing laugh and that only added to Jay's fire. She screamed at the top of her lungs. That's when I heard her mom scream what was going on. Her mom was fragile and weak and hardly did anything to protect her kids from their cruel father. Jay's dad told her mother to stay out of it.
To make the story short Jay tried to hit her father he grabbed her wrists and threw her to the ground she broke down crying, while her mom just stood to the side holding back tears.
Justin, Jay's 6 year old little brother apparently saw everything that had just happened and he ran to his father and pushed him as hard as he could and started to hit him over and over. Then their father turned around and whacked Justin in the head he hit the wall then crumbled to the floor.
Justin just laid there in a pool of blood. Long story short they ended up taking Justin to the hospital and after he had recovered child services were called to look into it but Jay's parents had argued that it was all a big accident and that Jay's dad did not purposefully hit him.
I told Jay that I had saw everything that happened and that I was willing to testify but Jay told be not too. At first I was confused but now that I'm older I know Jay didn't want the truth to be heard so that she could keep her family together. To her being broken and together was better than being broken and apart.
Jay thought that incident would scare me off as a friend but instead it brought us closer. And now 4 years later as juniors we are inseparable.
