All the kids were screaming and yelling, but Hajime didn't mind much. It was the first day of kindergarten, and recess was taking place now. Having nothing to do, he wandered the kindergarten play area aimlessly.
"Hi there!" Squeaks someone who has come up to Hajime. "I'm Makoto Naegi, nice to meet you!" Hajime blinks at the other who has a wide grin.
"Hi. My name is... Hajime Hinata?" Hajime hasn't introduced himself before, mostly because his parents did it for him, but seeing as they weren't here currently, he decided to take a step forward and introduce himself without his parents doing it for him.
"Cool! I saw you here doing nothing, so I came here to play with you!" Makoto says quickly, bouncing up and down in his spot.
"Oh, okay! What do you want to play?" Hajime asks, looking around to see what other kids were playing.
"Do you know the game Hopscotch?" Makoto asks, pointing at squares drawn in paint. Without a reply from Hajime, the brunette dragged him to the bundles of squares.
"W-Wait! Makoto! I don't know how to play Hopscotch." Hajime says, staring down at the numbers in boxes in front of him. He could recognize them with a lot of thinking- one, two, three... Was the next one six? No, it has to be five. Four would be more fitting for the familiar shape it's in, though.
"Oh, that's okay! I can show you how. Here," he bends down and picks a stone off the ground easily, showing it to the curious boy. "You pick up a rock, then throw it!" Naegi tosses the rock lightly, which hits the number 5. "And then, you hop on one foot and hop to the rock! Stay in the triangles, though."
"Aren't those circles, though?" Hajime points out, looking at the four cornered shape. Nonetheless, he watches Makoto play the game.
"These look like triangles!" He says while hopping from one square to another on one foot. When he reaches square number five, he picks up the rock and continues to hop to ten. "There, now you try!" He says with a bright smile.
Hajime picks up a rock he finds the moment he looks down, recalling what Makoto told him to do and tosses the rock lightly. It lands on 3. He debates on which leg to use, when finally, he settles on his right leg. One hop to another leads to square three, where he picks up his rock and hops to Makoto in the tenth square.
"Good job, Hajime!" He says with a bright smile, which causes Hajime to smile as well. Something catches his eyes, though. Two boys sat next to each other against the wall of the school, one wearing a smile and the other with an unfamiliar expression to Hajime. With matters of elimination, it's probably bored.
"Makoto," Hajime pulls at Makoto's sleeve gently, pointing at the two other boys. "It looks like they have no friends. Do you want to play with them? Maybe you can teach them hopscotch!"
The other looks in the direction Hajime was pointing to, nodding his head eagerly. "Yes! Let's go meet them, let's go, let's go!" He cries with excitement, the two boys dragging each other to their going-to-be new friends.
"Hiya!" Makoto says, grinning. "I'm Makoto Naegi, nice to meet you both! Do you wanna play with us?"
Now that Hajime got a closer look at the two boys, he could see that the one with a smile on his face had white and fluffy hair, while the other had black hair that reached his shoulders and strange red eyes.
"Oh, hi! I'm Nagito Komaeda! I'd love to play with you and your friend!" He says enthusiastically, his smile radiating calmness.
"Hi, Nagito! I'm Hajime Hinata. Who's that?" He points at the kid with near black hair, which in return, Nagito shrugs.
"My name is Izuru Kamukura." The boy mumbles, using the wall to help him get up. "I guess I could play with you guys." Nagito smiles, clapping both of his hands together.
"Great! What game are we going to play?" He asks excitedly. Makoto points back to the Hopscotch layout.
"We were going to go play Hopscotch! If you guys don't know how to play, I could teach you!" His squeaky voice says happily, running over to the squares just as another group ran over.
"Oh, um, are you guys playing Hopscotch, too?" Makoto asks the other group.
"Yeah, but you and your friends can play with us if you want to!" A blonde says, her hair braided nicely with a black bow on her head. Her smile is warm and welcoming.
"Thank you! I'm Makoto Naegi!" He introduces himself.
"And I'm Hajime Hinata!" Hajime pipes up, standing straight. He remembers to keep a nice posture when first introducing himself.
"My name is Nagito Komaeda, and I'd like to thank you guys a lot for letting us play too!" Nagito says politely, smiling back at her.
Izuru said nothing at first, his gaze turned away from them. When his gaze returns, his voice is just slightly above audible. "I'm Izuru Kamukura."
"What lovely names! I am Sonia Nevermind, I hope we'll be great friends in the future!" The blond girl says happily. She looks over to one of her friends, waiting for him to introduce himself.
He returns her gaze and quietly huffs, standing up straight. "My name is Gundham Tanaka, and I refuse to be beaten at the game of Hopscotch!" Everybody looks at him in confusion, but doesn't ask what he means. The other has black hair, wearing a slightly over sized beanie.
"I'm Kazuichi Souda, but if that's too hard to say, you can just call me Souda." He says, scratching his head. "Now, can we play, please?"
When recess was over, the small group of kids were laughing and racing each other to the door that leads inside the school. The teacher made them line up, which they did; but the noise never ceased.
"Kids in this class, please go in first!" Said one of the teachers, pointing to one of the open doors. "Kids in my class, go into this room!" He shouts, pointing towards the other room.
Hajime steps into the class, taking his seat in his new favorite spot somewhere in the back. Nagito and Izuru follows behind, with no sight of Makoto. Confused, he brings this up.
"Where's Makoto?" He asks his new friends. They all looked at each other, when Nagito speaks up.
"I saw him go into the other class! I don't think he's in this one." He says, then a look of sadness hit the group's faces.
When the teacher finally and successfully calms the class down and manages to keep them quiet, they address what they are to be doing for the rest of their time before lunch.
