Eric's POV:

Luka had his hands on a death grip around the steering wheel, you could see how tense he was, he didn't like the situation we were headed for. Every thirty seconds or so he would sneak peak at her in the rearview mirror. I smirk at him and he mouths a "what?" to me. I don't say anything but easily reads my mind and gives me an annoyed look. Just how long does he plan on lying to himself? I ask myself.

She was very quiet in the back seat, looking out the window in a very thoughtful way. Probably going through all the questions she wanted to ask. I felt sorry for her, her life hadn't been very easy, and it wasn't about to get much easier.

We finally arrived at the pack house, Luka dropped us at the door and went to park the car. We went inside and I frowned when I saw Lily and Cameron sitting on the couch, they weren't at school today.

"Where were you guys today?" I asked.

"Ugh, we didn't go to school." Lily said.

"Really?" I said with every bit of sarcasm I could find and in my body, and trust me there was a lot. "Thanks for the helpful information Captain obvious!"

Lily smiled sheepishly at me, and was about to say something but her mate spoke before she had a chance.

"We were minding our own business," he said in his usual confident manner, "you should try that some time."

I raise my hands in surrender, I knew they were hiding something, but this wasn't the time. Luka came to join us and we made our way to my father's office.

We were few steps from the wooden door when I turned to Selva putting my hands on her shoulders.

"You're gonna hear some pretty shocking stuff in there," I said looking in her big brown eyes, " You up for it?"

She takes a deep breath and nods. I turn to see Luka by the door shooting daggers at me with his eyes, so I roll mine in respond.

"Are you guys coming in?" My father yells from inside his office. Selva doesn't hesitate for a moment, and walks to the door and turns its knob. She steps in, Luka and I follow.

"Mom." I say upon seeing the women with brown hair and green eyes standing next to my father. She smiles at me then walks to Selva laying her hand for her shake.

"Hi, I'm Shanon Taylor, I heard so much about you Selva." She says as they shake hands. "Please, sit down."

Selva takes a seat in one of the chairs facing my father, my mom goes to stand next to my dad again, while Luka leans on the wall facing her, and I sit on the couch in the corner of the room.

"So," my father said crossing his hands on his desk, "your father," Selva leans forward in her chair, "how much that you know about him?"

"Not much," she said with a surprisingly steady voice, " Just that his name may or may not be Joey, that he's related to you some how, that he had big beautiful brown eyes."

"Like yours." Luka spoke, obviously not realising he said it out loud until it was too late.

"His name is Joey Matador," my father said drawing the attention from my cousin, " he use to be Joey Taylor, but he said he wasn't going to use that name anymore, right before he left..."

"What happened to him?" She asked.

"Let me start from the beginning." My father said and with a deep breath he started his story. "Your father wasn't a werewolf, even thought he was raised among them. He was a member of the Matador family, hunters, like your family, only there is a difference. Do you know how your family hunts?"

She nods. "We only go after those who spilled innocent blood." She told.

"That's right," my father smiled, "but the Matadors work differently. They hunt for power, they tried enslaving werewolves and vampires and so many others, they killed innocent people, children even, and they killed anyone who got in the way, supernatural or not. They had gotten too far, so our previous Alpha worked with your family, your grandparents to stop them. We attacked their house, it was a battle, those usually involve casualties. They killed some of us and we killed some of them." He pauses to let his words sink in.

"Joey's parents didn't make it, but he did. One of our pack members found him in his cradle and took him to our Alpha. This latter had taken over the pack for barely a year at the time, he had no mate, and didn't want a child in his life, so he gave it back to the same pack member. That pack member was my father, and he brought Joey back to my mother, my older brother Daniel and me." He pauses again to let her think about what he said. After a moment she turned around to look at Luka, probably realising that Daniel is his father, was his father.

"After that battle, our pack moved to Washington because we agreed with your family that if all goes well we would leave. He was raised with us, he was like a brother to me and Daniel. He was told that his mother left him at our door steps, he never knew anything more. And one year we had some trouble with another pack which made us come back to Moongrave. That's when..."

"He met my mother." Selva finished absently.

"Yes, they fell in love, and your family and my family didn't approve, but couldn't keep them apart. One day, he got home to find my parents and your grandparents arguing. He heard them say that he can't find out that the people who raised him and the family of the girl he loved were responsible for the murder of his biological parents. This revelation made him very angry, very ... vindictive." He stops probably planing how to tell the next part.

Selva's eyes jumped between the four of us, studying the grim façades we wore. "What did he do?" she asked.

"He was angry," my father said, " he wanted someone to pay."

"So who paid?" She asked again.

"Daniel." That was all my father could muster.

Selva's eyes widened as she put her hand on her mouth in shock. Luka shifted his weight from one leg to another uncomfortably.

"Did you get him?" She asked, voice foul of tears.

"No," my mom said, "he could still be alive but, this is all we know, maybe your uncle can tell you more."

She admired my mother for a moment with an unreadable expression, then, without any warning, she was on her feet.

"Thank you for telling me this." She told my parents. "I have to go now."

She walked hastily to the door, looking anywhere but in Luka's direction.

Luka left the room to follow her and I went to follow him.

He caught her at the bottom of the stairs, and he put his hand around her arm.

"I should take you home, it's going to rain very soon." He said in a soft voice I didn't know he was capable of. Yet, she was still not looking at him.

"Thank you, but I just..." she trailed off. She broke free from his grip and left, he would have followed her if I hadn't stopped him.

"She just needs time." I told him.

He clinches his fist then goes running up the staircase. After few moments I hear the door of his bedroom slam shut.
