Forgotten Carousel

Chapter 4

  I looked up to see Chryl looking down at the three of us. I nodded and stood up, following Chryl to the other side of the tent. "Anything you need?"
"Paladiin and I have decided on something," I raised an eyebrow, my eyes full of confusion while Chryl cleared his throat. "We're going to help you and the other two run away."
"You're gonna do what? Isn't that suicide for medical workers here?!" My tail fluffed out as I spoke, my eyes widening. Chryl stared at me and waited for me to calm down. I sighed and looked at him. "Why do you want to help us?"
"You three are the only ones who act like you don't want to be here, I've seen the way others are acting. Some have gotten so numb to what's been happening around them they just, walk around with smiles all the time." Chryl looks at me before looking around, making sure no one was listening to us. "I don't want you guys to start acting like them. So we have decided on helping the three of you escape tonight." I felt my ears droop as I nodded.
"What about you and Paladiin?" Chryl looks at me with a small smile before shrugging.
"I think we can manage." I nod before looking around, starting to walk with Chryl back to Raluukir and Liukaiir. We watched Chryl walk back to the tent before I felt Liukaiir's tail nudge my arm.
"Well, what did he want to know about?" I looked around the tent, seeing only Shibii in the back as I leaned closer to talk quietly. After I explained everything Raluukir sat back, a concerned look on his face. Liukaiir appeared to be lost in thought. We sat in silence before we all moved into the clearing, somewhat close to the carousel. We talked to each other for a while before moving around and acting like we were practicing in the middle of the clearing, not wanting to attract attention to ourselves.

I was sitting on my cot, looking lost in thought as I looked at the gold ribbon I had in my hair a few days ago, looking at the somewhat shiny fabric and rubbing the smooth fabric with a clawed finger. I looked up, noticing that it was dark out. I set down the ribbon and quietly walked outside, meeting up with Raluukir and Liukaiir as we all waited for Chryl and Paladiin. We talked to each other quietly before we saw Chryl walking towards us, Paladiin following close behind him. "Are you all ready to go?" We all nodded while the two started walking with us to the forest, looking around before starting to run with us. I heard a loud screech back at the circus, more screeches following it before a roar sounds. "Shit, they found out. Nobody stop running!" Chryl shouts at us as he increased his speed. We were running for what felt like forever until I felt myself trip and fall, gasping as I felt myself fall. My body didn't collide with the ground, I felt Raluukir's arms curled around me as he continued to run. We stopped running after a while, hiding in an old cabin. Liukaiir leaned herself against the wall as she gasped for air, Raluukir set me down carefully before coughing while I sat still and looked at my ankles, making sure I didn't twist one.
"Okay, we should all be safe for now." Paladiin speaks softly as they looked out the dusty window. "We just need to be up and walking tomorrow morning." Chryl walks over to Paladiin, wrapping his arms around the thin owl hybrid. Paladiin noticing and leaning against him gently with a small smile. I look over at the two and smile before yawning, leaning against the wall. Everyone around me found rooms to settle down in for the night. I felt Raluukir pick me up after a while before carrying me into another room. Raluukir carefully laid me down on the bed before sitting down on the other side and mumbling to himself quietly. I soon fell asleep, my tail hanging off the side of the bed.

I felt weight shift behind me. I yawned before opening my eyes. I looked around quietly before trying to move, getting pulled down and squeaking. I look down to see arms curled around my stomach. My tail fluffs out slightly as it starts to sway before I try to look around, shifting my weight and turning around so I ended up becoming face to face with Raluukir. My eyes widen and I stay silent, Raluukir looks so peaceful when he's sleeping. My hand slowly moved and touched his cheek as he made a noise, my hand quickly moving away as my tail fluffs out slightly. I stayed silent as I watched Raluukir's eyes slowly open before he yawned, his fangs becoming visible before he looks back at me with a tired look. "Morning Syll." I look at Raluukir with a small smile.
"Good morning." I looked at Raluukir before I felt his arms uncurl from around me before he slowly sits up. I stood up and stretched before walking into the main room, seeing only Liukaiir sitting at the table.
"Oh, morning Sylliorah."
"Just Syll is fine." I sit down across from Liukaiir as she nods with a soft smile. "You wouldn't mind if I called you Liu would you?" She soon agrees for me to use that nickname while Paladiin sleepily walks into the main room. We look at Paladiin before talking to each other quietly. Chryl and Raluukir walk into the room soon after. Paladiin talks to Chryl quietly while the three of us talked to each other, occasionally laughing before we all stood up. We walked out of the cabin and started walking in a small group. Some of us walking around or occasionally stopping if we thought we heard something. after what felt like forever we found a spot for us to rest.
"Did any of you happen to look through the cabin for food?" Chryl looks at all of us before realizing none of us had. He sighs and stands up, starting to walk around. "I'll be back, stay put."
