It was almost 11:30 AM when the party alighted from the vehicle at the site of Dholavira, Two men from the museum came out to greet Dr.Jason Parrot and Dr.Ram Joshi.
" Meet Suryasinh and Rajveer, they serve as guides here and also help us with the excavations and other activities" Dr.Ram introduced both of them and then started giving them instructions.
"Surya you come with us . First we will go around the site and in the end Dr.Jason will inspect the boat. Rajveer you make the necessary arrangements for the inspection, see that nothing is left out. Today is Monday and the site is not open for visitors, so we will be able to roam around freely."
As the party started moving together, Kriya was taken over by a strange undecifered feeling. Kili was quiet on her shoulder and Jayveer and Jeetika were more than eager to have a glimpse of the ruins of ancient futuristic metropolis. Dr.Marie Ann was looking forward to some more knowledge about Indian culture while Veer was simply happy to have got this unexpected opportunity.
As everyone started strolling , Suryasinh started giving information about the remains of various exquisite monuments there. This ancient city of Gujarat was the evidence of its progressive nature and exceptional engineering skills way back in the time period between 2650 BC to 2100 BC. After being briefly abandoned, it was reoccupied. There were seven stages of rise and fall of this civilization which flourished with its great mathematical precision and astronomical orientations.
Dr.Ram commented in between whenever necessary while they were moving from one monument to other. The most amazing aspect of this site was its mind blowing water conservation and harvesting system powered by two water bodies named Manhar and Mansar on the southern and the northern side of the site. The structures were mostly built with stone bricks. Everyone was amazed to see the water supplying reservoirs. Kriya moved towards a big well and others followed her . Both the archaeologists kept on discussing things while others were listening to Suryasinh.
Like any other Harappan site, this site too consisted of the Citadel, the Upper town and Lower town where three classes of people lived. By the time the party had seen these areas, it was almost 2 PM .So they decided to sit for while before they proceeded further.
After they all drank water they started discussing about various structures. Suddenly, Kriya got up and moved towards the stadium which occupied the space of 1,65000 sq feet and stood there spell bound. As others followed, she seemed to be completely lost as if trying to recollect something, while Kili remained silent .
Further ahead the party saw the bazaar area where there used to be well laid out shops for the trading community. And finally they came to the signboard which contained 10 huge signs of undecifered Indus script. Kriya stood there completely awestruck. Both the archaeologists were busy with their own discussions and were much behind others. So before they moved ahead, they decided to take another break and wait till they joined them.
