"Gerard?"
I looked up, seeing Elle and Frank. Elle was tugging on a long strand of her lilac colored hair. The way the blonde faded into the lilac soothed me for some reason, which was the only reason I looked up when she called my name.
"What do you want Cyber?" I asked harshly.
She jumped at my harsh tone and looked at Frank then back at me. "Gerard, we should go see Helena."
I glared at her. "I don't wanna see my grandmother."
Elle sighed and looked down, her hair falling into her face.
"Gee, Helena is dying."
I looked up at Frank, and the expression on his face said he wasn't lying.
"Take me to her."
~~~~~~~
"Helena?"
Elle pushed open the door, and I heard a voice from inside. "Cyber Splatter?"
"It's me, Helena. And i brought a visitor." I could almost hear the smile my grandmother had. "Who is it, dear?"
Elle walked back out and took my arm. She smiled at me and pulled me into the room.
I didn't think it was possible, but my grandma's smile got even bigger.
"Gerard?" Her voice cracked and she laughed, coughing right after.
I knelt down next to her bed and smiled, my red hair falling into my eyes. She smiled and said, "Gerard, thank you for coming to see me on my death day."
She put a wrinkly hand on my jacket, and I smiled, tears welling up in my eyes.
"Well I love you grandma. I'm not gonna leave you to die with annoying Elle." She let out a shaky laugh.
"Gerard?"
I swallowed.
"Yes grandma?"
"Sing for me?"
The tears were stinging, but i refused to let them fall. "Of course."
I took a breath and took her cold hand into mine, and she looked into my hazel eyes with her wrinkly grandma face.
"Some say now, suffer all the children, and walk away a savior.
Or a madman and polluted,
From gutter institutions.
Don't you breath for me,
Undeserving of your sympathy.
Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did,"My voice cracked slightly when i saw her chest slight heaving up and down, struggling for air. I hear Elle suck in a breath and saw Frank wrap his arms around her.
"And through it all,
How could you cry for me?
Cause I don't feel bad about it.""Don't stop singing Gerard. Finish the song." I nodded at my grandmother's final wish.
"So shut your eyes,
Kiss me goodnight,
And sleep."I looked at her as her breathing slowed to where her chest was barely moving and her eyes slid shut, her breath coming in tiny puffs from her mouth.
"The hardest part of letting go of your dreams."
I sucked in a breath and continued. I had to finish it.
"A drink, for the horror that I'm in.
For the good guys and the bad guys,
for the monsters that I've been.
Three cheers for tyranny, unapologetic apathy.
Cause there ain't no way that I'm coming back again."I felt and hand on my shoulder and I could see the familiar purple hair or of the corner of my eye and she sat down next to me.
"When through it all,
How could you cry for me?
Cause I don't feel bad about it.
So shut your eyes,
Kiss me goodbye.
And sleep.
Just sleep."Frank kneeled next to me and I bowed, tears running freely down my face. I saw Elle reach up and tuck a piece of hair behind my grandmother's ear.
"The hardest part's the awful things that I've seen."
I let out a choked sob and wrapped my arms around the body of my grandma, an slated my head on her chest and cried into her red blouse.
Frank gently soothed me from her and and took me into his arms instead. He tiptoes and hugged me to his chest. I cried while looking at Elle, who was also crying while covering Helena with a white blanket.
I buried my head into Frank's chest and whispered,
"Wake up."
