Chapter 6

Recap: ''I'm sorry, but your mother is dead''

Fear. That's what I had at that moment. Actually I had a whole bunch of different emotions running through my mind. Sadness. Fear. Confusion. All rolled into one. The phone dropped from my hand as tears started running down my face. Jay looked at me and picked up my phone. ''Hello, yes this is her friend. Uh huh. What? Oh my god. T-thank you doctor. Bye'' As she hung up the phone I fell to my knees and sobbed. The tears just kept coming. Jay came and side hugged me. I put my face in my hands.

''Its all my fault! Its all my fault!'' I kept repeating over and over again. Jay kept saying no no it wasn't. But somehow, I knew it was. I never got to say goodbye. Never got to hold her long enough. Didn't give her enough kiss'. Didn't spend enough time with her. Its all my fault. All of it. And somehow, I know I can never make the effort to fix it. Because shes gone. And shes never coming back.

I had gone back to my house and I was in my room. Jay had called Hayes over. I was sitting in my bed with him next to me, sobbing in his chest. ''I c-can't believe s-shes g-gone'' He smoothed my hair. ''I know baby, I know'' As we lay there, I looked up at the ceiling. In the bumps on the ceiling, I could see images of things. People, animals, shapes. I looked at the ceiling until i eventually fell asleep.

(The Next Morning)

I woke with my head pounding. Hayes left, and I almost, almost, forgot about last night. Until I saw the picture on my night stand of our whole family. Tears stung my eyes but I held them in. I had to be strong. She would want me to be strong. I got out of bed and took a headache pill then went to my closet to pick out something for school. 

I picked my ripped blue jeans, a slightly big shirt and my combat boots. I went downstairs and grabbed a granola bar then went outside and headed for school.

As I entered the school, people around me stared and made way. As I approached my locker, some guy came up to me. ''Hey baby, your lookin' hot'' I rolled my eyes and pushed past him while saying ''Jackass'' I opened my locker and a whole bunch of letters fell out. ''I am not in the mood for this today'' I murmured to myself annoyed. I put away my crap and headed for Music.

''Class, today you will be coming up here and singing your choice of song. Remember, you will be graded.'' As student by student went up, I sat playing Flappy Bird on my phone. ''Damn bird'' I said annoyed. Then I heard my name. ''Alica Twaimz'' I stood and walked to the front. Boys whistled and girls gave me dirty looks. I rolled my eyes and started my song to get this over with.

Like a small boat

On the ocean

Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

I closed my and prepared for the worst. But it didn't come. Instead everybody clapped and cheered. ''That was brilliant Mrs. Twaimz!'' I smiled and went and sat in my seat. Music class ended and I was now in Drama. I haven't seen Hayes today. I wonder were he is. What if something happened to him? What if-

''Mrs. Twaimz, are you paying attention?'' I came back to reality and looked at Mr.Williams. ''Yes sir'' He nodded and went back to whatever the hell he was doing. I dozed of until the bell rang. As I was walking to the cafiteria, somebody grabbed my waist. ''Hey beautiful'' I sighed. It was only Hayes. ''Hey'' I sighed as he grabbed my waist and spun me around to face him. ''Are you ok?'' He asked bringing his hand to the side of my face. I nodded and grabbed his hand and lead him to the lunch room. ''You sure?'' He asked again. I looked at him. ''Hayes, I'm fine. I promise'' He nodded and put his arm around my shoulders. We got our lunch and I went and sat down by my friend Melody. ''Hey Mel'' I said. She smiled. ''Hey, wheres Jay?'' I shrugged just as Jay came and sat down besides her. ''There she is'' Hayes came and sat down on the other side of me. ''Alica, I'm so sorry about your mother'' Melody said sadly. I shifted as Hayes put his hand on the small of my back. ''That's ok'' I said and went back to eating without saying anything else.

As the last bell rang I went outside and headed home with Jay besides me. ''So, what do you wanna do today?'' I heard her ask. ''Actually, I planned on hanging out with Issa'' She nodded understanding. ''Ok, tomorrow then'' I nodded as we arrived at your houses. ''Call me later'' She said before walking to her house. I went inside and saw Issa sitting on the couch watching some show. ''Hey Issa'' I said, plopping down on the couch next to him. He smiled. ''Hey'' We watched Tv for while until i asked him something. ''Hey Issa, wanna go tot he water park? Just you and me'' He smiled. ''Hell yea!'' We got up and went to go change. 

''This place is AMAZING!'' Issa said looking in awe at all the rides. ''Which one should we ride first?'' I asked him. ''That one!'' He pointed to a water slide that was really steep and tall but looked fun. I shrugged. ''Sure'' We headed towards the slide, climbed up the stairs, then waited in line.

''Finally!'' I sighed in reilief when it was our turn. I got into the tube and looked at Issa who gave me a thumbs up. I put my arms around my self waiting for the platform beneath me to give away. Suddenly, I was sliding down the long tube screaming my head off. Iflew from the tube into the water as the slide ended. I saw Issa sliding down the tube screaming like a girl. I laughed as he flew into the water. ''That was AWSOME!'' He said. I nodded as we went on all the other rides.

I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling in the dark. Today was awsome. I got to spend time with my brother, everyone loved my singing. I thought of all the things that happened today and starting drifting to sleep. As my eye lids have away, I said one last thing before drifting off to sleep. ''Goodnight mom'' Then, I fell asleep dreaming about that day.
