I Want My Mommy

Pepper's POV

I woke up with a jolt up by sudden commotion, I saw doctors checking his vitals on the several monitors and noting down something on their pads. I fell asleep on the leather couch that was placed in Tony's room. Nobody woke me up. I walked up to sleeping Tony, he was in a deep sleep, the drugs were kicking in. I held his hand but soon tear started rolling down my cheeks to see his bandaged wrist.

"Don't blame yourself, Pepper!"

I wiped my tears as I saw Rhodey standing on the door. He walked in and sat on the other side of the bed, facing me.

"How can I not blame myself Rhodey, it's my fault. I fought with him. It's me because of whom Tony is in this condition now." I said with low but a shaky voice, so that I don't wake Tony up.

"Pepper, we all know how this happened; it was all just an accident for God's sake!" Rhodey sounded reassuring, "I just talked to some Dr. Hank and he said that he'll study about what exactly happened"

And then he walked up to me.

"Look at yourself Pepper. You are a mess."

Again a tear rolled down my cheek. I stood up and went to freshen myself up.

I looked into the mirror, this is not Pepper 'Virginia' Potts. I had puffy and red eyes, my face was pale. I splashed my face with water numerous times but that feel of guilt and anxiety was not getting away. I again cried, soundless so that Rhodey doesn't find out.

I stepped out.

"You again cried!" Rhodey said while pouring some juice in glass "How stupid do you think I am?" and handed me the glass. I just smiled faintly.

But that smile was not for any longer as I saw Keisha standing on the door.

"What do you want, Keisha?" I spat. She was the last person I wanted to see at that time.

"I'm here to take Mr. Stark's few exclusive photographs." She peeked from Rhode's shoulders but I stepped in front of sleeping Tony, just like a mother bear protects her child.

"Step aside, Pepper, I need some photos of him for the next issue." she took a small camera out of her bag but I was not in the mood to argue.

I just snatched the camera and smashed it on the floor. At this Keisha lunged for me but Rhodey intervened.

"Ladies! We are in a hospital." Rhodes tried to reason.

"How you even got up here, Keisha?"

"I have my ways." Keisha smirked.

"Well! Do you want me to throw you out or will you drag your stupid ass outta here yourself?" Rhodes no more wanted to have it her way.

Keisha once glared me and stormed away. I was thankful for Rhodey's presence, what I would have done without him.

"Mom..." Tony mumbled in sleep.

I and Rhodes rushed to him. Just when a man wearing white over coat stepped in holding an IPad. That was most probably Tony's Doctor...

Tony started moving and slowly opened his eyes. But the moment he saw Pepper and Rhodey leaning over him, he hid his face in blue bedsheet.

"Why are you two here??" He shouted while his face was still in the sheets.

"Tony! It's me Pepper!" after a long time Pepper had a smile on her face...

"And where's Mustard!" Tony joked.

Rhodey was relieved to hear the old sarcastic Tony. "You scared us buddy." Pepper too smiled.
