ALEC LIGHTWOOD had stayed up all night awaiting for his older sister's arrival. She had been hunting demons late last night and had yet to come home. He hadn't told his mother yet, Cecily always pulled stunts like this.

Usually the green eyed twin would run off and stay the night with her friend Magnus Bane, a powerful warlock. Alec had never met him but she always spoke highly of him. But she would always contact Alec, letting him know that she was alive.

She hadn't done that.

Cecily had left the New York in a frenzy, Isabella was searching for her sister and Jace was almost dying of worry. Isabella had already tried to contact her parabatai, but it failed. She knew something was wrong with her sister, this wasn't just another sleepover with The High Warlock.

Constantly Isabella would feel a sharp pain in her head, she knew it was Cecily. She knew it wasn't normal for her older sister to be defeated by a demon, in the back of her head she knew something wasn't right.

And it wasn't.

Jace kept beating up the practice bags in the training room, he was angry. Angry that she hadn't told anyone she was hunting, if he had been there he could have protected her. He hated himself at that moment for not know where his girlfriend was. All he wanted was for her to get back safely.

But deep down he knew she was gone.

Alec was in the midst of writing his mother a letter, explaining Cecily's disappearance. Hodges was in the gardens, so he had the library all to himself. His pen looked like it was about to be snapped in half, he was pressing on the paper way too hard.

He never liked to disappoint his parents and he knew that he should have watched out for his sister. It was his job to protect his siblings and he didn't know how he could handle if she got hurt.

"Dear Mother,
I regret to inform you that Cecily has gone missing again, but this time is different. She left no note and Isabella has been getting waves of pain that we suspect are Cecily's troubles. I have contacted one of her friends that she usually visits and he has replied that she has not. I fear for the worst, Mother.
Alec Lightwood"

It was short and Alec wished his mother was here to solve the problem. She always had a way of doing so, something Cecily had inherited but not him. He was beyond worried about his older sister.

It didn't help when Isabella burst into the library, he knew something was wrong with Cecily. Isabella rarely ever cried and now she a couple of tears running down her cheeks.

"Alec," She slowed down her tear. "She's been binned to someone else. I can feel it, the rune stung."

He could only think of one person who his sister would marry and that was Jace. But the golden haired boy was still at the Institute.

He knew something was terribly wrong.

He was right.
