She was in a sunny clearing in the forest, laughing with Bluepaw, Owlpaw, Gingerpaw, and Briarpaw, hunting. They were swimming in the stream splashing each other. A large gray cloud rose in the sky. They thought it was going to rain. But Dreampaw squinted at the cloud it seemed to be rising from the trees, smaller clouds rising and joining it. "It's smoke!!" She gasped. Suddenly she was alone.

She didn't know where she was. The forest didn't seem so familiar to her anymore. Flames were rising faster. Sparks and bits of debris were flying. Animals were fleeing. A great pine tree fell with a loud creak. She had to get out, now. She ran but it seemed she wasn't getting any farther. In fact the flames seemed to closing around her drowning her in smoke and ash. "You need to protect your Clan, they won't survive if you can't help them." A voice said. She looked to see a starry figure standing amidst the flame. Wind ruffling his fur.

Who are you? She asked in her mind. "I am Lightningblaze. Warn your Clan." What? But he was gone. Suddenly she was engulfed entirely and was submerged into darkness.

Dreampaw woke up with a gasp. She realized that she was in Violetdream's den. Bluepaw wasn't beside her anymore. She looked around for him and saw him talking nervously to Violetdream. "Did you have the dream too?" He asked her when he saw her. "The-the fire?" He nodded. "Did you see Lightningblaze?" He shook his head, "Tinyears."

She nodded, "I saw you there, Briarpaw, Gingerpaw, and Owlpaw too." "Same, I saw you there, we were swimming and you splashed me, I woke up with wet fur." He complained. "Sorry," she said, "anyways they must have had the dream too." He nodded. "How is your paw?" "It doesn't hurt much, and the bleeding has stopped." "The infection seems to have gone down too. Blizzardfoot says it was a massasauga. He's very proud of you," she told him, "You're very brave."

"Thank you," he said.

"For what?"

"For saving my life."

"I didn't save your life, Violetdream did."

"Of course you did, you killed that creature before it could have bitten me again. That takes courage. You risked your life, for me. Why?"

"I just saw you and I had to do something."

"You're very clever to use that advantage to kill the snake."

"You are brave too for giving that advantage to me. You know why I say that you are brave? Because you made the massasauga try to attack you, it could have killed you!"

"Like you I knew I had to do something, I couldn't have just sat there watching you get killed."

She licked his muzzle, "Thank you." He purred. "Should we ask them?" "Wait, they are coming." He nodded. Briarpaw, Owlpaw, and Gingerpaw were padding towards the medicine cat den. "Violetdream, uh, we all had a weird dream about a fire." Said Gingerpaw. "So did we." Bluepaw said. "Okay. Hey, how's your paw?" Said Gingerpaw. "Good. Violetdream have you an idea about what it could mean?" She looked up, "No, well I have one idea. It was most likely a warning for the future." "I saw Lightningblaze." "And I saw Tinyears." "Well I did see a cat named Cottontail. She's Heatherflight's mother." Said Gingerpaw. "And I saw a cat named Ivyclimb, and she is Otterfang's mother." "I saw a cat named Pikawhistle, I think he was Windingriver's father." "Is it just me or was there three she-cats and two toms, and they are related to us, and we are three she-cats and two toms." Dreampaw remarked. "Maybe they were part of a prophecy, and you are supposed to complete it." Wondered Violetdream. "Possibly." Bluepaw said. "Well I'll have to tell Clearstar, but I'll tell him not to tell the Clan yet," said Violetdream, "we don't want cats to be worried over something that may not even happen." They nodded.

"In the meantime keep a lookout for anything else that could be a sign from StarClan. Now let me have a look at that paw Bluepaw." Bluepaw held out his paw. She removed the cobwebs, "It stings!" He said trying to hold back a whimper. Dreampaw touched his shoulder with her tail. "Yah, it'll sting for a bit, but that's a sign that it's healing." Mewed Violetdream.

"Hey where's Pebblepaw?" Briarpaw pointed out. "Oh, she's gone with her siblings and Riverleap to meet Matchbox, her father. Dreampaw and Bluepaw ran across him on patrol yesterday." "Oh, that makes sense I remember my mother telling me something about that when I was a kit."

Spiritleap and Emberspots walked in. Violetdream sighed, "Now what happened?" "Oh an angry squirrel," joked Emberspots. "No, a raccoon." "Tomcats," muttered Violetdream, "always getting into fights, think they know everything." "Too true," Dreampaw silently agreed. "Let me see," sighed Violetdream. Emberspots held out a torn claw and Spiritleap had a scratch on his shoulder. "Darkfeather says you two fought that massasauga rattlesnake really well." "Don't remind me about my paw," groaned Bluepaw, Violetdream had had to force him to eat bitter tasting herbs, her last supply of honey had been used for Talonkit when he swallowed a particularly harmful beetle and got sick.

Violetdream dressed Emberspots's claw with cobweb and gave him some herb Dreampaw didn't recognize. Then for Spiritleap, she gave him some marigold and cobweb.

She realized that Emberspots had brought a mouse for Violetdream, "I thought you might be extra hungry since Pebblepaw is not here to help you." "I'm not an elder yet." Violetdream teased. Emberspots looked taken aback, "You're not offended, are you?" "Of course not, I was just teasing you. Sorry. Thank you." "You're welcome," he replied.

"You stay off that paw!" She called to Bluepaw, to Dreampaw she said, "Make sure he doesn't do anything vigorous or something of the sort, okay?" Dreampaw nodded, "Thank you!" And she padded after Bluepaw.

"Did Violetdream make you my guardian?" He asked her. "Maybe," she said, a hint of teasing in her tone. Bluepaw flashed her a playful glare. "Seeing that mouse that Emberspots had made me realize I didn't eat anything last night or this morning, you must be hungry too." He remarked. She was pretty hungry, "Okay sure."

Near them Russetpaw glared at Bluepaw.

"Okay, what is going on with you two?" Asked Dreampaw. "Well, I don't really know what her problem is." "She did call you a stupid fox-dung when we came back yesterday," Dreampaw reported, "I don't know why she did though. Maybe she thinks you're a nuisance, bothering that snake." Bluepaw's eyes widened, "You really think I was that mouse-brained?" "No, it was just a thought, and she is older than you," she pointed out, "and you can behave like a kit sometimes," she added. "Hey!" He pounced on her tail. She let out a surprised squeak.

"Ha, Kit Squeak!"

"Hey!" She twitched her tail.

"I'm going to call you Kit Squeak," he teased.

"Oh yeah, Cobweb Brain!" She retorted.

"Meanie!"

"Really creative, Flower Face!"

Bluepaw playfully batted her ear with his paw. "I am not a Flower Face." "Uh huh, only if I'm not Kit Squeak," she said. "Fine," he said a glint of teasing in his eyes as he broke off in a run, "Kit Squeak!" She ran after him and caught up until she was only a tail-length away. Then she pounced, bowling him over. "Violetdream said to do nothing that will hurt your paw, Flower Face." He grumbled, "Okay, fine."

Briarpaw padded over. "What are you two doing?" She asked, "Aside from Dreampaw beating you in a mean name war." "You heard?" Bluepaw asked startled. "Yep, Cobweb Brain." Dreampaw let out an amused purr, "I was trying to keep him from hurting his paw again, but I don't think all of StarClan telling him to stay off of that paw would do anything." "Nope it won't." He said stubbornly. Dreampaw let out a sigh, "Back to work, ugh why did Violetdream have me do it?" "I wish I could help you, but me and Gingerpaw have to check the elders for ticks," Briarpaw wrinkled her nose up. Dreampaw purred in amusement.
