"Come on sans, you'll never beat a human like that" Gaster says, pacing by. He had me running back and forth across a clearing in the lab he made, dodging shots from a gun he rigged. I still wasn't really sure I was up for this, but it didn't look like I had a choice. I pant, dodging again and again. "I-I'm trying!" I snap, tripping. "Sans! Pick yourself up!" Gaster snaps. Suddenly a loud alarm starts to blare, making me jump. He looks around, eyes wide. "A human... Quickly sans!" He yells, grabbing my arm. "Gaster wait!" I yell, tripping as he rushes out the door and down the hall. Undyne was kneeling on the ground, holding a hand over her eye. "Damn! They went that way!" She yells, pointing down the hall. Gun shots echoed as undyne wipes the blood away from her face, covering her eye. I gasp as Gaster runs down the hall. "G-Gaster stop!" I stutter, scared. "Come on sans this is your moment!" Gaster says, pushing me forward. The human turned, their soft brown eyes wide and full of fear. I freeze, watching them. We lock eyes as the human holds their small gun up. They wore a cowboy hat and boots, their hands shaking. "NOW SANS!" Gaster yells. 'Just like we practiced...' I think, focusing. I hold an arm out, watching as they drifted Into the air. It happened too fast as I slammed my hand down, driving tall, jagged bones through their small body. I flinch as their blood splatters the ground, feeling the glow fade from my eyes as Gaster rushed forward, congratulating me. But his voice was muffled as I stared at their still body. "Their...just a kid..." I mumble, watching their blood drip to the floor. "It's them or us sans. They trapped us here!" He says, yanking the body free of the bones. "Yeah..." I say, following quietly. We make it back to the lab, where I tell Gaster I was tired and leave to my room. "This...this is what I'm supposed to do, right? To save the underground? I...I have to!" I say, staring at my hands. "But...no! Gaster said this is what I need to do!" I say, balling them up into fists.
"Don't look so freaked out kid, this was years ago. I was a lot different back then" sans says, looking at your shocked expression. You blink, shanking your head. You ask what happens next, and sans sighs. "This parts kinda dark kid. How old are you?" He says. You make a face, saying your clearly twelve years old. He sucks in a breath. "Look, frisk..." He trails off, looking at your determined face. "Fine... So, I kept training with Gaster, right?"
"Sans, come here" Gaster says, looking at a screen. "What's up?" I ask, walking over. "Theres a human, right outside the castle." He says calmly. I flinch, staring. "W-what? How do you know?" I stutter, shocked. "I set cameras up all around here so we'd be the first to know if a human shows up" he says, standing. "Yeah, that's not creepy" I huff. "We have to get there before the alarms go off. I want you to fight them before undyne can get to them!" He yells, grabbing my arm. I sigh, letting him drag me to the courtyard. He quickly pulls us behind a bush. "Look, there" he says, pointing to a small child. They wore a purple tutu, nervously walking around. "Go" he demands. "W-what? Okay, no! That's a child! A tiny, harmless, child!" I snap, looking at him. "A humans a human sans, kill them". "NO! What are they gonna do, pirouette us to death? I'm not doing this!" I shoot back, angry. "Fine, if you won't" Gaster growls, standing. He summons the Gaster blaster, a strange looking skull, resembling a dragon. "Gaster no!" I yell, grabbing his arm. He closes his fist, letting loose a blast of bright white light. "Dammit..." I say feebly, feeling myself fall on the ground. "I'm disappointed sans. Go, collect the body and take it to the coffins" he snaps. "You know what? NO! Do it yourself!" I growl, standing. "What?" He snaps, glaring. "I said no! This is wrong and you know it! I'm leaving" I shoot back, turning. He snorts, watching as I walk away. "Where are you even going to go?" He laughs. "Anywheres better than here!" I growl, storming away.
You watch as sans stares off, getting lost in thought. You get his attention, asking about papyrus. "Huh? Oh yeah, pap. I was getting to that. I'd say I was in Snowdin for about a year....
"Hey grillby, did I even tell you about the kind of magic I use?" I ask, looking at the fiery bartender. He turns, raising an eyebrow. "It's called blue magic." I say, feeling tired. "What does blue magic do sans?" He asks, humoring me. "It lets me use the bone attack, but it also allows me to stretch time. So much so I could even go back in time!" I laugh, staring at the bars pale wood. "Have you ever...gone back in time?" Grillby asks, looking concerned. "Heh, yeah. I jumped back, And I tried to save the humans, all those kids who fell down here." "Sans..." He starts. "And it worked! I was able to pull them away from their death. But everytime I went back and saved them..." I trial off, thinking back to each time I had jumped back in time. "Everytime something else would kill them. In the end Asgore always got their souls. No matter what I did I couldn't do it. Couldn't change the timeline." I laugh, slamming a fist on the table. "Sans, your drunk" grillby says gently, looking worried. "Look, your drinking a bottle of ketchup!" He says, pointing at the bottle. I take another gulp, laughing. "Yeah well, we are ketchin up!" I laugh, stepping off the stool. "Maybe you should call it a night... Do you need help home?" He asks, watching as I stumble. "Nah, I know a shortcut" I laugh, shutting the door behind me. I sigh, teleporting in a blue *blip*. I land on my front porch steps, barely making a sound. I walk in, flopping heavily on the couch. "Tomorrow's another day..." I mumble, drifting off.
I wake with a jolt, looking around. A loud banging had woken me for sure. Another loud knock from my door echoed through the house. I stand, carefully walking to the door. Another knock makes me jump. I open the door, wincing at the sunlight. "Hi! Sans? My names papyrus! I-" I slam the door shut, shaking. 'This has Gaster written all over it' I think. There was a Skelton outside my door, wearing a shirt and jeans like I did my first day at the lab. "Uh, hello? It's kinda cold out here!" He calls, his loud, bright voice making me look back. I sigh, opening the door again. "What do you want?" I grumble, looking up at him. "Hmm? Well I've been sent here to help yo... Oh my" He says, looking inside my house. I glance back, sighing at how much of a mess if was. "Don't you worry sans! I'll clean this up in no time, you can just sit here and relax!" He says, pushing me to the couch and grabbing a broom. I watch him, stunned as he quickly cleans the place. 'What the hell are you playing at G?' I think, trying to find some sort of explanation for papyrus' strange appearance. I feel my eyes get heavy as I start to drift off. I feel someone gently set a blanket on me, making me half open my eyes. "Sweet dreams sans. It's... It's nice to have a brother" papyrus says softly. '...brother..?'
