A stiff silence filled the area as a good minute passed, allowing the song to play out. After that, Reese and JP began giving out loud laughter as if to make up for the suddenly somber atmosphere.
"Chewie just screamed, and you find it funny??" Lily hissed, backing up towards the door. "Get me out of here!"
Maybe this was amusing to the teenage boys who held the mannerisms of thirteen year olds, but none of this seemed very funny to Lily or the other girls."Hey, hey! Relax, okay?" Reese said, coming over to gently rub Lily's arms as if to rub her out of her stiff posture. This one move made her want to slap him upside the head. He was taking a moment of her fear to use as an excuse to touch her.
"Hands to yourself, Carter," Nico suddenly scolded, his emerald eyes narrowing at Reese's grasp. His lip curled as he watched Reese with strong dislike.
Reese snorted in amusement at the scold, but removed his hands anyway. Turning his gaze back to Lily, he released an innocent shrug. "Look, Chewie's being a dick, alright? This is his favorite song, and he was upstairs setting up a camera. He's just messing around-"
"-I want a door unlocked, and I want to go home," Lily said sternly, not budging on her demand. Staying the night? Forget it. She didn't even want to venture back to the basement for her sleeping bag - she could come back for it on Monday. Lily was the type of girl who hated dark corn mazes around Halloween, and disliked practical jokes in general. Tonight was as if those two things combined to create a hybrid of terror. The bathroom stunt was her worst nightmare come to life.
"Well crazy pants, obviously there ain't a way out right now" JP replied snottily, rolling his eyes as Lily proceeded to move to the door to start jiggling the chains. Lily wasn't sure what she thought she was accomplishing with this - she was just hoping the doors weren't actually locked and a little extra effort would get the chains to uncoil. It was a futile attempt, however. No movement on Lily's part disrupted the heavily knotted chains.
"What if that was a genuine scream from Chewie?" Evie asked nervously, glancing around the dark hallway before she made her way over to the lights. Flicking them on and off, they don't turn on. Darkness still fills the hallways with the exception of the flashlights and the cell phone light apps.
Davion snorted. "Well that's proof my man's playin'. He cut the lights, and now he's screwing around with the loud speaker."
"Why would he cut the lights?" Abby asked skeptically, holding her own flashlight up to look around the area.
"To be a dick?" Nico guessed.
Lily finds it almost difficult to hear him given the loud beats of the song still echoing off the school walls. Nico comes forward, glancing around the dark hall with his flashlight."The whole system is wired in the basement, right? If all of us are here beside Chewie-"
"CHEWIE!! Come out, come out, wherever you are!" JP called loudly, causing the awkward tension to slightly shift away. "Get out here and cut the crap!" He laughed, obviously amused.
Silence ensued with the exception of the extremely loud eighties song.
Chewie doesn't acknowledge anything was said, only feeding the flames to Lily's already paranoid fear that something wasn't right about any of this. Everyone began talking about the camera set ups probably being ruined due to all the yelling and music, but, all Lily could do was hopelessly watch the locked doors while trying to think of a solution. Thunder cackled outside as the rain hammered down on the school roof, creating an even creepier atmosphere.
Something about these locks wasn't right to Lily in the slightest. It was too odd.
Lily chewed her thumbnail, her go-to move in times of stress. What bad horror movie didn't start off with a thunderstorm, darkness, and idiotic teenagers? It was the trifecta of a horror movie.
