Fingers idly tapped against cold metal, the sound echoing in the close to empty room. A man sat at the end of the room on what seemed to be a throne, his eyes cold and distant as if remembering or thinking of something of the past.
It was only when the big doors to the room creak open did he look up, seemingly startled for a moment before narrowing his eyes into a sort of angry look.
"What do you want? I thought I told you leave." His voice was cold and commanding, as if he was a person of high social standing, although one could say he wasn't. The boy that entered did not seemed fazed by this however, and rested his gaze on the lavender haired man.
"You know I can't do that. Besides even if I leave where would I go?"
"Hell if I know and in truth I don't care." The man hissed. Perhaps being rude would drive the other away, if nothing else. He was such a nuisance to have around, especially since the green garbed boy threatened he was going stick around till his life ended or something like that.
"Jeez Vaati..." The boy placed his hands on his hips, and stayed silent for a moment simply watching him for before, "is something wrong? You seem more... Edgy than usual." He finally asked, choosing his words carefully.
Vaati's eye broke contact as he looked to side, not very eager to elaborate on what had put him on edge. "Nothing is wrong." He growled, his teeth clenching.
"I know that's not true Vaati."
"What do you know? You know absolutely nothing about me, hero." Vaati rose to his feet. "The only reason you're here is because you pity me, nothing more. After all, you could have chosen to spend your afterlife in peace or watching over that wretched family of yours, but..." Vaati clicked his tongue in annoyance and turned to the side to leave, but didn't move from that spot as if he had been frozen in place for some unknown reason.
Link on the other hand blinked slowly a few times. The sorcerer words stung. What he said was partially true, he did stay because part of him felt sorry for the infamous wind mage, but the other part of him believed in the good person Vaati once was, even if the mage had forgotten about the past, Link hadn't; even if he was just a ghost now.
"Vaati."
The sorcerer's ear twitched. He was listening.
"Has your memory returned yet?"
The demon turned his head to meet the Hero's pale blue eyes. That was what he was trying to avoid thinking about but- "Yes, I finally remembered it all, after all these centuries." Vaati let out a cynical laugh. "A truly pathetic story I must say. I would have been better off not remembering, since the person I once was is now dead."
"I don't believe that!" Link protested. "I believe that there's still some good in you Vaati."
"What a foolish notion." The wind Mage murmured, narrowing his eyes into a glare, and with that finally left the room leaving the former hero behide.

When Vaati was sealed within the Four Sword for the first time, that was when his memory was lost. When he first broke out of the sword he was left with nothing, but his anger for the hero and his greed for power. So, he acted upon those feelings for lifetimes, only to be sealed by the hero of legend, time and time again.
For as long as he had known that was all he had, and all he ever needed, but one day the very first hero that had sealed him, that had fostered that feeling of hate that he had kept for so long, appeared before him as a ghost exactly as how he had remembered him. As a child. Why he appeared he wasn't quite sure, even though he said those things about Link pitying him and such, Vaati was just assuming, so that remained unknown...
The sorcerer walked through the multiple hallways that made up the Palace of Winds, now lost deep in thought.
'The past.....my past...no, that's not right, it's not my past... It's his past...'
