Have you ever wondered what it feels like to die? To leave your earthly self behind and roam in the vast sky, range over the new astonishing lands, to become a mistress or a goddess over the great seas.
The girl did, once. When she was just about to discover what people's second life really is on the other side. Maybe she's still just on her way to find that out. Maybe, just maybe, she's in between it - life and death.
In the darkness that surrounded her head, she was thinking of how things could be. She didn't know what was happening to her - only was somewhat sure that she was still alive. But, possibly, it was only a matter of time until she could freely leave her attachment, her frame, live on as a naked soul or be reborn as someone new decades or only seconds later.
The girl didn't feel her flesh and bones, only was aware of how the blood circulated trough her vanes. And she didn't have enough subconsciousness to question - how? How was I even breathing?
She had no memories of what her life was before this black pit. And no lead who she even was. The girl was someone, a person living somewhere, knowing someone and holding something precious to her heart. But how she had got here - in this dim place - she did not know.
It felt like years had passed by with her thoughts and questions that needed answers when she was able to feel something more of her body, herself. First, there was a faded, dull sound. It echoed unclearly in the expanse, time by time, ringing in her mind and leaving when she wanted to hear more of those strange, inhuman sounds.
Then there came a smell that reminded her of the forest - fresh spruce needles that rolled between your fingers when you touched them, leaving a strong scent on your skin. There was also a tiny pinch of dried wood that called to her mind a burning fireplace - so warm and pleasant.
Finally, she felt light touches here and there. On her actual body. Her body. It was a tingling feeling like something feathery was touching her figure and playing with her warm skin, moving from her fingertips to her elbow joint and up to her angular shoulder. She felt a bit heavier, but still caring enough, touch on her chin but it wasn't as warm anymore. Like a watery, wet surface it moved across her jawline to her forehead, wiping away the warmth off her soul.
But as soon as the something got to her temples, vivid daylight shone within the dark hole of her mind.
"She's awake." Someone murmured. The voice was ringing in her head, echoing and making her dull. She heard water splashing and some footsteps moving against the hard ground, hurriedly.
