Sophi GalvonI was visiting my parents home since my older sister was in town. I hadn't saw Samya in months and I missed her along with my niece and nephew.
I was holding Maddox my three month old nephew in my arms and it was hard to not fall in love with him. His little lips were pouted as I caressed his chubby cheeks. Lifting him up I held him to my chest enjoying the natural smell of baby that exuded from his little body.
"You should have one." My sister said looking over at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Now why would I do that when you've made me such beautiful babies already?" I asked caressing Maddox's curly hair. Every time I attempted to lay it down it would curl right back up.
"Because there's a different feeling you get as a woman, and as a mother when you experience the opportunity to carry life inside of you." Samya said causing me to think of the idea.
Me pregnant? That would mean I'd be settled down. Not that the thought of settling down was something I didn't want to do, but I had too much on my plate to just start popping out babies.
"I hear you sis I do. When I'm comfortable and stable I'll make that step. Until then I'll keep spoiling yours like their mine." I said smiling at Maddox as his big eyes stared up at me. "Aint that right man? Tell your mommy she sounds like your nagging grammy with that settling down talk." I said in a squeaky voice causing his little pout to form a slight smirk but that's it.
Of all the babies I'd encountered thus one was hard to please. He always held a serious face and the closest thing you got to a smile was a smirk. The only thing that made him smile was his dad.
Lifting her hands Samaya surrendered dropping the conversation.
"Where's my brother in law anyway? It's rare he lets y'all out of town without him."
Samaya was married to Calvin her high school crush turned college sweetheart. They got married right after college and soon after my niece Madison came.
They lived in Miami now while the rest of us were here in Atlanta. Calvin was a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins and Samaya was a physical therapist.
Their story was cute but it was their story. I admired it but I knew that I couldn't live in the shadow of her life as my mother wanted me to. I had to write my own story.
I'd tried to follow in her footsteps with Gabriel my ex fiancé, but obviously that didn't work out.
I got all the way to my wedding day and he was a no show. When I finally did find him I traced his credit card to some hotel in New York where he was fucking the maid of honor my best friend Lana at the time who was also missing in action.
I could laugh at it now three years later, but if I seen either of them I'd personal kick their asses for public embarrassment.
"He had to stay home for training camp. The kids and I won't be down here long so he should be fine until we get back." She said grabbing Maddox so that she could feed him.
Leaving her to nurse in peace I made my to the kitchen where my mom and Madison were making lunch.
Walking in I grabbed one of the speared pickles that decorated an assortment of different sandwiches.
"Aunt SoSo!" Madison shrieked. "It's not ready yet. We have to wait on pop pop." She said with her hand on her hip looking like her mom.
Covering my mouth I bucked my eyes. "I'm so sorry Chef Maddy. I'll wait." I said acting for her.
"Thank you. Just a couple more minutes and Grammy said we could have lunch on the deck." She beamed grabbing cups for everyone as my mother helped her.
