I fall backwards. A glowing orb gets thrown out of the container from my fall.
"Don't be afraid, Max." The soothing voice virtually putting me into a trance of some sort.
I crawl slightly towards the orb. I look up at the man, almost as if I was asking permission to continue. He caught my drift, and nods his head ever-so-calmly.
I pick up the orb. It burns my hand, yet, I can't stop holding it. Right then, almost within the blink of an eye, the orb turns to a piece of paper. The paper burning my fingertips as I hold it tightly.
"You probably won't be able to read it, the pain is unbeara-"
"SHUT UP! TELL ME WHAT IT SAYS." I say, the pain growing so much worse.
"Well, now... That's not very ni-"
"Do....it....now..." I say, gradually getting more impatient.
"Fine. You do work for me, I'll give you exactly what you want. I mean anything, besides things that go against mine." He says, growing that same smile as he had before.
"What's the catch!" I say, trying to intimidate.
"You can't say no to my wants, unless you're willing to lose everything. You were nothing before now. As of now? You are nothing. How's that saying go...?....uh.. God giveth, I take it away?" His smile getting somehow more prominent.
"If I say no?" I ask, dropping the paper that was killing my fingers.
"Your worst nightmare comes true. You'll mean nothing. You'll stay nothing." He says, winking.
I sit here pondering what my next move should be.
What felt like minutes past, and I agree.
"Gooooood. Just pick up the paper, then sign your name." He says, while he seems to be surveying me.
I pick up the paper, and realize there's no pen. After my realization happens, I feel a sharp sting on my left eye, and can't see through it. I use my free hand to touch it, seeing if he just took out my eye. I feel water.
"Write your name." He says, angrily.
I dip my fingers in it, triggering even more pain, then does as he says. After I write it, I see I wrote it in blood. The paper disappears, as does the pain. I fall, due to the placidness of my nerves.
"Now comes the fun part!" He says, in an almost sarcastic sounding voice.
The world morphs into a realistic world. The room into a nice, fashionable changing room.
"The mirror, you must look." I hear from behind me.
I turn to me left and see a very tall mirror, and in it, I see the man from before to my diagonal-back-left, and a faceless, figureless, black being where I'm standing.
"You choose yourself." He says, right before vanishing.
I wish I could say I hadn't messed around, but admittedly, I changed myself from a girl, to a guy, almost 30 times. I made myself tall, short, fat, and skinny. That's when it hit me. This is real. I get to choose myself.
Firstly, I choose to be a male. I, then, choose to be a skinny person, with a six-pack. I was amazed. I made my eye color a red, rather than the brown it used to be. I turned my hair into a short fade, with the bangs flipped up, of course. My next motion was to make myself 5'9. To answer why, it was due to the fact that I wanted to look normal. I wanted to look cool, not perfect. Well, for the most part. I admit. I had morphed a few...."appendages"..as well... *cough* my uh...*cough* dick.
Moving on!! I then saw a closet to my left. I open it, to see a puzzling amount of clothes. I, of course, realize this is also my choice. I think about what I want to be.
I pulled out a pair of jeans, a pair of cowboy boots, a Jean jacket, and then a small pair of sunglasses. After putting these on, I realized I can't always wear these clothes. So, I sat down, waiting for the man to return.
I wait for no more than 3 minutes, at at the most.
"Well! You look splendid!" His voice sounded particularly trustworthy at this point.
"Thank...you..?" I say, questionably. "Will I get another opportunity to change my clothes?" I ask, in a very curious manner.
"You will. Whenever you please, actually." He says, very proudly.
The room changes yet again, to a very run-down apartment.
"This is your home!" He says, cheerfully as ever.
I murmur a few cuss words to myself, only to a hear a jolly "What?" From the man. I'm realizing, now, he's going out of his way to be a smart ass.
