My mind was reeling as I tried to wrap my head around what he just said. Werewolves weren't real were they? I must have been lost in my thoughts for longer than I thought because Gabe was shaking my shoulder.
"Izzy! Izzy, are you alright?" He asked, concern lacing his voice.
I looked up at his face and couldn't stop the feeling of shock that I was experiencing.
"You've got to be joking, right?" I looked at him in disbelief. He grimaced before speaking again.
"I'm completely serious. I know this is a lot to take in but I hope you'll understand." he looked away sadly at the last part. I felt it pull at my heart, I was confused but I didn't like seeing him look like that.
I reached out to grab his hand and he looked at me with a hopeful glint in his eye.
"I don't understand really, but I'm willing to let you explain." I replied quietly. He gripped my hand tightly before speaking.
"Well, I was born like this. There are many werewolves in the world, but we aren't like they show in the movies." He paused for a moment before continuing with a deep breath. "We turn completely in to a wolf and we can do it whenever we want, not just on the full moon. Because we are werewolves we are faster, stronger and much more agile than the average human." He looked in to my eyes again before continuing.
"We also have great hearing and eyesight, plus an amazing sense of smell. And a fast metabolism that causes us to heal quickly." He finished.
I could hardly believe what I was hearing. I felt like I might faint, but I held myself strong. Not wanting to look so weak.
"Okay." I was still unsure of what was going on, but I would continue to talk and listen. " And what about mates? What does that mean?" His eyes snap to mine, darker than they were before.
"Mates are when werewolves find their other half. Like a soul mate. Another wolf that was made specifically for them by the Moon Goddess. They are perfect for each other, everything about them is complemented and balanced out by the other." He paused for a moment, I could feel the nervousness radiating off of him.
"And mates are together for life. After the male marks the woman and they mate, they will feel nothing for any other person for the rest of their lives. They love each other and will do anything for each other." He stopped and looked me in the eyes, the heat there impossible to miss.
"So we're..mates?" I asked in a whisper. I didn't understand, he said they mated with their own kind. I'm just a human, so how is that even possible?
I felt Gabe wrap his arms around my and I sighed as the tingles spread across my body again. It was hard to believe what he was saying to me but I couldn't help but want to believe everything he said.
"Can I see it?" I asked nervously. I wasn't sure if I was ready but I wanted to know for sure. So there wouldn't be any doubt left in my mind.
He was deep in thought for a moment before he nodded.
"Let's go outside." He grabbed my hand and led me back to the door. Once we stepped outside he turned to me and pulled me in for a heated kiss. His mouth covered mine for only a moment before he pulled away.
"Just in case this is where you leave me." He tried to joke, but I could clearly see that the thought was paining him.
He stepped back and in to the moonlight. After a moment the air began to buzz, and I saw Gabe hunch over. His body began to change quickly, where he had hands and feet before, there were paws. His face elongated in to a wolf's and his body was sprouting fur. He stood up at full height and I gasped in awe. Before me stood a huge, beautiful black wolf. His fur looked shiny and soft. His beautiful blue eyes looked even more stunning as a wolf.
